works well

moltaxe2

Before this, I always used google translate which was good. This app is conveniently quick and easy and helps me better communicate with my friends who speak English as a second language

Impressive

lunarbest2

I use this app to help me with speaking to my neighbor, friends and extended family Spanish. Much better than Google, because they understand what I am saying. Of course it helps to pronounce words well, which I can now say I am pretty well at

it's nice

Use it daily. Express in English, translate to other language, copy, paste and text or email to recipient. Receive response, copy in other language then paste in translator and convert back to English. And so on and so on. It’s quick and easy. Effective communication tool

5! Add Offline Support!

Aleks1115

I would really like to see offline support for languages (Polish), or at least some dictionary function! Also some better professional voices would be very appreciated! For tiny suggestions, you should change "Pro&Sync" tab name to: "Optional". That would be nicer to an eye! Or at least add some spaces and reorder words: "Sync & Pro", I think sync should be first, it's far more important. Thanks! Edit: Photo translation also would be cool! But it's not that important...

fantastic

This is very likely the best translation app to be had. It’s simple easy to use and highly accurate as judged from languages I am familiar with. It’s outstanding app and my go to app when I want to translate anything.

nice

I can’t believe how easy this makes travel to so many countries soo easy. I like to go to the off the beaten path places where speaking English is not as prevalent. This app makes it simple.

so good

I use this app all the time, primarily for Italian translations, but many languages are available. It’s Quick, accurate and easy to use. You can also translate directly while texting, very handy

Great app. I'm blown away at the level of usability this app has. I use it on a daily basis to translate from English to French as I live in Paris. It’s really simple and easy to use. I really satisfied using this

Good integrated w iOS, but main selling point, Phrasebook Sync, has issues

Leo of BORG

So there are a lot of "integrated with iOS translation tools, and now there's Mate Translate. But this one has a Phrasebook (user glossary) that syncs across devices. Sounds great. The iOS integration is first rate. I can use slide and split view on my iPad Pro, it works really well. It’s the Phrasebook part that gets me. This allows me to use it with OCR & dictionary apps that have less developed phrasebook / glossary functions. But there's a but.... Mate Translate *could* be a very powerful tool if more development went into the Phrasebook and Sync. It’s the main reason I bought it, and when it works it works very well. The problems I’m seeing are that sync intermittently fails, but worse there seems to be no email support from the developers at all. Even a terse: “Try it now” or “Working on it” would be fine. 2 failtures in 5 days of use is not good. Also, when there is a reset there is no merge of data from other devices so this is really very *basic* “sync”. You may have to delete all Phrasebooks to get it working again. The Phrasebook has good, basic features like isolating one language from another so that you don’t get “mixed” phasebooks that confuse studying. But-- the Phrasebook needs work. As other reviewers have said, some of the translations are “off” but no worse than Google Translate. The problem: There is no editing of titles or any of the terms. What you get from the translator is all there is, no notes or anything else. Given the sync problems and data loss, there’s no backup or export feature either, so the only way to “restore” is to go back thru your translation history and re redo the Phrasebooks. This is too much work if you’re studying 1 or more languages. In sum: Great integration with iOS. The devs really put work into slide/split view knowing folks would use it. Probably the best "deal" if you have a Mac is to buy it there, then you get all devices and Mac integration, but that's another review. When it works it’s indispensible, probably the fastest way to build a glossary on mac- and iOS that I’ve found, and I’ve “tried them all." But: -1 star for the sync/phantom support, -1 star for Phasebook issues.
