Latest update = custom samples gone

KingDiamond

Just updated to the latest version of gadget and it destroyed all of my custom presets in sample-based gadgets (Vancouver, etc.). Now most of my projects do not load/play correctly. I can find the missing samples in Files but when I tap to load them, nothing happens. Gadget is so frustratingly painful to use with these recent updates. Don’t waste your money like I did. There are plenty of better and less expensive alternatives. To the developer: Yes, I am running the latest version (2.4). Garbage. I’ve deleted the app completely. Too bad I spent soooo much money on this app and it’s IAPs. Save your money everyone! You are better off with GarageBand and AUv3 instruments and effects. It will save you money and provide a heck of a lot more flexibility.

weird korg money games

The gadgets themselves are alright... and aside from some serious sequencer limitations, the real wackyness is in the price... If you have the desktop version and the iOS version you can spend upwards to $500 on this software because basically you’ll need to buy all the IAP gadgets twice... and if you bought the desktop version before the update to V2, you’ll need to pay an extra $100 to get the V2 update, where the iOS version is free. So it gets weirdly expensive. Is it worth it? Not for $600, but maybe if $200 got you the full package for both platforms with free updates... when you compare all this to something like Logic Pro which costs $200 and includes everything forever, this looks and feels like a weird korg money grab... but the gadgets are cool and the software, being limited as hell, is fun for awhile and works ok if you don’t want to get too deep into composition and editing. Enjoy

Most productive IOS sequencer

jld

I have a number of IOS sequencers (Modstep, BeatMaker 3, Auria Pro, Medley, Thumb Jam, ...) and overall I find Gadget is my go to app. A big part of this is the behavior of the piano roll which has the best handling of the apps I own. For drum parts the step sequencer in Modstep is better but none of the other apps have the efficient piano roll editor that Gadget has. A drawback is you are limited to Korg gadgets and I imagine for any type of music you will need to purchase some IAP gadgets. For pop/rock/Jazz etc. you really need IAP drums, bass, piano. There are some interface quirks (e.g. to rename a scene you click on time signature in function mode, not intuitive at all) and midi import is a mess, breaking midi sequence into multiple 2 bar scenes. But overall Gadget is a very efficient music app. Sharing between devices works great, but again it’s not intuitive.

My favorite composition software

So nice to make music with this software. Look up Norhythmic on SoundCloud if you want to get an idea of what you can do with the software. I made all my recent tracks that way.

... was a show in the '60s. Gadget, however, is THE show of the, um, uh, well ... whatever this decade is to be known as. Though the guitar sounds leave much to be desired (I actually prefer the guitar in iKaossilator!), Gadget really is something special. Why there's no playable X-Y pad is beyond me, but Gadget is awfully cool anyway. And although I do wish Korg hadn’t seen fit to take out the ability to rename tracks when they slapped a “2” on it, this tool really does outperform everything else. If only they hadn't forgotten to add in changing keys on the fly ala iKaossilator.

Sooo,... On the Right Track

The second time I’ve had to write about this program, I can’t resist praising it. They are so ON with the legendary Korg sounds, super awesome layout and superb functionality, I just hope they stay right where they are with the design concept. Please continue to moving forward, the future of music production is here, now and has never been better! Can’t wait to see what they’ll do next! July 21, 2019: Still totally in love with Korg Gadget 2 progression. Thee most beautiful music app on iOS ever. Every time I get a new gadget it surprises me! The sounds in these modules are so inspiring. I need one more drum module that I can directly sample into with filters and such. Not that I don’t love the Recife and LONDON already! Audio recording needs only a few more editing functions, should be on the way I hope. ??

Add AUV3 to Gadget!

Why can’t I open audio units inside of korg gadget!? It’s a DAW, right? Please make it happen!

(Update) Grid prompt to report bug...

I know I like the app but I cannot reach Korg with my issue: How to successfully import audio into Gladstone and why does the app become muted at times without any of the mute buttons being pressed? Update I was under the impression that Korg would only address my issue if I created an account with them at their website. To be fair, Korg did reach out to me for help. I think my issue is that I’m using an iPad Mini 2. Too frustrated by now to work it out with Korg. What really did it was when I lost a particular file. After opening a different file I decided to reopen said particular file only to find that it was missing. Other files were present, but not this one. This one file was so important to me and it was the only completed song I created on my iPhone SE’s version of Gadget. I’ve invested in this app but I can’t even trust it. At least on my Mini 2 I haven’t lost any data. I will update my hardware in the near future and will give Gadget another shot. For now, the one star remains.

Arrangement View ?

Sokoum

In the next update an arrangement view section, enabling users to view their projects horizontally ( sort of like Ableton has ) would be cool ?
