First Version Easier

Irishxs

Version one was so much easier. This version should have been split into sections. Too complicated!

Great app, excellent documentation

Sharada Arvada

I have loved the legacy version of this app and the new version looks really good. I’m not a fan of changing user interfaces and I like these changes. The documentation is the best I’ve seen anywhere. Clear and helpful tutorial videos, manual, FAQs.

Most used app

So many features to make my knitting life easier and more joyful. It’s truly an amazing app!

Great new features

TNmaid

I have used the legacy Knit Companion for several years and I loved it. The NG version is WAY better. I love the new features like being able to put notes right on the pattern and the new line and stitch markers (and others). I took the tutorials before I set up my first project and have set up a crochet project (easy) and a much more complex knit project. I was very impressed with the operation of the new version.

Confused

Mel6203

I love the idea of an updated app, but I’ve already spent money on the old version to get all of the bells and whistles. Does this mean I have to spend money on this one to get the same thing?

Can’t imagine life without knitCompanion!

AymR

knitCompanion is an amazing app that makes knitting from patterns so much easier! I got into it with my first project, and I’ve never knit without it. I never will. I love the fact that as soon as I logged into the new version, I got credit for the subscriptions I had purchased in the old version, so I’m set for a while now. I like the new interface. I’m getting used to it, but so far I really love the changes. There’s a lot of power here, so it’s not always completely intuitive, but for the more complicated things like setup of new patterns there are such fabulous FAQs and documentation. And whether you’re new or converting from the old version, be sure to watch the 3 introductory videos available on the knitCompanion site.

Great new features, needs a little tweaking

Saucy Filly

I have used KnitCompanion for years. It has revolutionized the way I knit. I can knit complex patterns anywhere because the app makes the pattern so easy to follow. I never lose my place, even when moving between projects. Patterns never get lost. You can easily set up patterns that are spread over several pages into one, or a few, easy to read charts or one text file. Highlights, pop up notes, Magic Markers, etc. really enhance the ease of use. I love the ability to embed videos, the ease of aligning chart pieces, the grid feature, and the familiarity of so many carryover features. I miss having my recently used patterns at the top of the list. I am usually working on 6 or more projects at a time. I don’t always remember all the project names. I rely on the photos to choose which project I will work on now. I now have to go to Ravelry to find the project name, especially for projects that have been hibernating for a while. I hope this sort option will be brought back in a future update. Another item I would like to see reinstated is the ability to use Magic Markers in keys. When l am working with multiple cables, particularly when the stitches are very similar, it is very helpful to have the stitch coded in the same color in both the pattern and key. I am hopeful that this feature will be restored, as some of my imported patterns have retained the color coded key. If worse comes to worst, I can set up the color key in KnitCompanion and export it to NextGen. It would be inconvenient, but not impossible, to use this workaround. Keep up the great work!

Best Knitting App

amanda_cake

I don’t usually review apps. But I love this one and wanted the community to see how awesome it is. I plan on doing a fuller review on my blog. I’m very excited to be using this updated version of knitCompanion. This is a powerful iPad program that makes my knitting life so much easier. I don’t think I would have ever learned how to knit from a chart if I hadn’t stumbled across knitCompanion and received an iPad for Christmas over four years ago. Having been a long time fan of this app, I will highlight some of my favorite features: *the ability to have the program count long stretches of stitches in a chart for you *the ability to have the program find a symbol and highlight the rest of those symbols in the chart (magic markers for the win!) * the row repeat feature for charts and now for text I can’t wait to see this app grow. I’m looking forward to future updates.

KC is knit essential

WoolWizard

I loved the first KC but this next generation is even better. The flow is smother and so many improvements with the tools. In our group so many people say they couldn’t or wouldn’t even try patterns without KC. It is best tool in the bag except the needles.

Text tap took a downgrade

Abigail Sin

I was excited to upgrade from KC to this app and followed the migration steps provided easily. I was sad to see how low the resolution quality is in the text tab and even made a side by side image from screen captures. ? It’s not worth upgrading at this point unless you only read charts.
