Just Tune

Everything you need to tune an Instrument
Category Price Seller Device
Music $0.99 Michael Stoddard iPhone, iPad, iPod

Just Tune is a chromatic tuner, metronome, and pitchfork for the iPhone and 2nd generation iPod Touch (with external microphone). Used by professional musicians around the world, Just Tune allows you to calibrate the tuner and pitchfork to alternate tempered scales used by many professional orchestras such as A=442. Tune your instrument using either the Tuner or the Pitchfork, whichever you prefer.

Just Tune also helps you calibrate your sense of rhythm with Metronome. It allows musicians to practice with a regular beat. Metronome allows you to enter sophisticated beat patterns and adjust the tempo to suit your practice speeds. The perfect practice tool for drummers.

Tuner
- Sophisticated technology provides good performance and accuracy
- Chromatic tuner allows tuning for most acoustic instruments
- Works with built-in microphone on the iPhone
- Requires headset microphone for the 2nd generation iPhone Touch.

Metronome
- Provides accurate beat count from 6 BPM to 360 BPM
- Allows you to "record" sophisticated beat patterns for immediate playback
- Change the tempo without changing the beat pattern.

Pitchfork
- Sine Wave Generator generates all notes in 8 octaves
- Change the tuning calibration to any scale required

NOTE: The built-in speakers of the iPhone do not have a great bass response, so the lower frequencies may not be very audible past C3 (130.81 Hz). Plug in your headphones to bypass the built-in speakers and get better frequency responses in the higher and lower octaves.

Doesn't pick up the note well at all.

Works better than my old Tuner
justgus

I like this Tuner. It works better than the clip-on tuner I bought for my Bouzouki a few months ago. I get a good signal strength using my iPhone and the response is fairly accurate. Some notes do waver, such as the low E on my Guitar seems to switch between E and B, but that is due to the hardware limitations of the iPhone's built-in microphone. I'm looking at making an adapter that will give me an even better signal and allow me to tune my electric guitar. iPod Touch users should be aware that, right now it requires you to use a headset adapter with a microphone, which may have even worse limitations than the iPhone; but if you can get a good microphone plugged in it will work great.

not usable (in pitch pipe mode)
Mister Dub

I was teaching a viola lesson, and tried using Just Tune to play a drone note while my student played her arpeggios. Sadly, the note was barely audible-- I had to hold the bottom of the phone to my ear just to hear a faint hum. Also, the notes it plays have dropouts. Oh well, at least it was just a buck :(

Not just a tuner: THE PERFECT reference tool for beginning sound techs and engineers
JoeMitchell79

For quite some time I've trusted my ear more than a tuner; I've been teaching music for 7 years and mixing live bands for 5. I've tried the tuner and it is acceptably functional I suppose- but still has the same problems that made me stop using tuners in the first place. It's slow to respond and has trouble with harmonics on the thicker strings (confused for another note than one played). Granted- it's still an excellent deal at $1 because it's basically on the level of a store bought cheap acoustic mic tuner which typically starts in the $20-$30 range. However-- you get 3 program in 1 (and I'm building up here). The metronome is worth the price alone. Again value wise, I find it much better than the cheapest store bought metronome, which have an awful and harse beep. This app has more of a *tink* kind of sound, far more pleasing to the ear, but not quite as good as a *click* in my opinion. Again: beep tuners start at $8, clickers at $25, so again, very good deal here. Yet, were it only a metronome and tuner, I really wouldn't have had much use for this app. It's the 3rd function which I find to be the most unique, useful, and indispensable: the pitchfork. If you have a decent ear, this is really the best way to tune anyway. By simply dragging up and down you can tune to any note in an 8 octave range-- That range being from about 16 Hz to approximately 4 kHz. Attention sound techs and musicians who do their own sound with a portable PA: this is the perfect reference tool to have at your side to find that exact frequency that is feeding back-- just put an earbud in one ear and listen to the band with the other! If you don't have your frequencies already memorized, and in my encounters most do not, this tool will ABSOLUTELY help you. Plus- this is the only app I've found to have this function. For my uses, it is a must-have application, and with 3 programs in 1 it is an outstanding value- worth far more than I paid for it.

Not Worth It

If something seems too good to be true.... I liked the idea of an all-in-one app and especailly at $0.99, but one gets what one pays for and I did NOT pay much for this, though $0.99 is still too much for what this app delivered...or more appropriately, did NOT deliver. The tuner just plain did not work at all. The indicator was all over the place even when I used a pitch pipe to test it. Worthless. The metronome is very poorly designed and did not function well. The pitch pipe was way too low in volume and had awful clicking noises throughout. Save yourself a dollar and get something else.

Awesome handy pitch fork!
heatedjesus

I've been playing guitar for over 7 year and this is a great app. especially for it's price. I'll I wanted was the pitch fork and it works very well, there's a slight crackle but it doesn't make it hard to tune at all. People complaining about the volume obviously don't know about the quick playlist option you access by double pressing the home button and turning up iPod volume. If you need/want a handy digital pitch fork then there's no reason you shouldn't buy this sweet 99 cent app.!

JustTune is worth about $.75

That means they're charging $.24 too much. This application does not function well. I thought I could get a cheap all in one music tool app. Instead I spent a buck on some poorly app. Usability is low, and getting the app to recognize/generate a tone correctly always takes a finger tap dance.

Waste of money
Thisapptotallysucks

None of it works well enough to even be usable!!!!!

A great pitchpipe, tuner and metronome
orchman

This is a great lttle app! Works well and is very convienient to use! I had trouble in that I had the phone on silent mode and wondered why the pitchpipe wouldn't work. I contacted the Mike Stoddard the developer and he quickly and graciously helped me figure out the problem. I felt dumb that it was so obvious, but he was very kind and helpful!!! Kudos to Mike and d/l this app; it's great!

Best App for REAL musicians!!!
ComedyBass

Tuner, metronome, and pitch fork all in one! What else would you need? I'm a professional bassist and I love that all I need for the gig is this app! Don't bother with the other tuners, etc. This is well worth it and gives you the tools you need to play the gig
