It's an informative app. Sometimes it posts old info. Keeps family member informed of quakes in Japan.

This app was great when I first got it. Now I'm not even getting relevant warnings. I just got an alert for an earthquake in TAIWAN and I'm in Ibaraki Japan... I'd 5 star this app if I could get notifications for earthquakes that affect my area or at least the country I am in. Why even bother selecting my area? If the developers would spend time fixing what we are complaining about instead of using fake apple accounts to hide poor ratings we'd have a good app in our hands. 1 star because it at least tells you an earthquake occurred, 3 more if they fix it, and the 5th star if it can give me a reading of what my area felt in comparison to the epicenter.

Really great, timely notifications after the fact. Sometimes just a minute after. You can plot current location although the map of the latest earthquake plots and then the current location goes away and the nearest reactor site is plotted ( nearest the latest quake ). Tsunami notifications, never saw this in action, good thing too! Good for keeping track of the shaky business!

*update: after a few months of use, this app is not useful. It sends me useless far away notifications but every time there's a real earthquake in the Tokyo area, I see no signs of it on this app. Don't buy if you're in tokyo! Just downloaded this last night, and i already see problems. Some large earthquakes aren't reported and the magnitude/shindo scale listed in the app is wrong. Earthquakes that were actually 5+ are listed as 1. Notifications are sent only when you're closer to the epicenter even though you're still far enough to feel the earthquake. I'll probably delete this app soon in search of a better one.

I wish it would give details of the tremor in my area even if not in the epicenter, but good app overall.

When I moved to Japan three years ago, I was looking for a very good, low price, informative earthquake alert app. I checked out several, but Japan Alert is the best one out of all of them. It has informed me of numerous earthquakes, including major ones in other parts of the world. So it's useful not just for Japan. You can customize it so it only alerts you about earthquakes above a certain magnitude. You can also look on a map to find where the epicenter location is, and even an overall map to see where all the earthquakes have occurred recently. It also has a tsunami alert tracker, so in case there are any tsunami alerts, you will know. I highly recommend this app. Look no further!

Have had this app for three years and it did exactly what it advertised it would. Now it's got the option to switch between shindo level and richter, too. Highly recommended!
