Stem IZON Cameras - Great

Captgpl

I love these cameras but the best part is their customer support. They make you feel like family, not just a trouble ticket. Responsive, friendly, polite. Other companies should model their customer support after them. No, I'm neither an employee nor a compensated spokesman. I'm on my third IZON camera now and 100% satisfied.

Limits videos and short record time

Kimcritten

You only get 25 uploads per day. Sounds like a lot but it only records 15 seconds per upload so it could be used up in less than 5 minutes of activity. If you look at their ad pic you see the times of the recording are in the same few minutes and it's like five of them. I don't hate the device - it's just not as useful as it may appear.

Has never worked with the latest update

On second camera. Fix your rubbishy product.

Affordable, easy, capable, and does not put you on the hook for mostly fees!

Yerette

Amazingly good value - no monthly fees! After you buy the camera and that’s the only expense aside from providing your own Internet access. Simple to set up and to easy expand too: buy the camera, download the app to iPad/iPhone, follow the fairly simple to figure out set-up prompts of the App to tie the camera into a WiFi system. I gradually expanded coverage to 7 IZON View (day/night) cameras at home (one outdoors under a roof ledge with pretty good continuos operation in all but the most rainy/humid days), and 3 at work. My cameras are set up to cover approaches, so a vehicle for example will alarm and be recorded coming into my driveway or someone walking up to an exterior door or window will trigger the camera to record. Cameras also cover interior areas that would be most prone to a break-in, and I am expanding coverage even still. So now I feel a greater sense of comfort while being away from home, heading off to grocery shop, flying overseas, or am reassured just staying indoors. The Izon View has day or night vision modes and an auto day/night mode. The night mode is illumination by built-in red LED’s, when they are on then these can be seen by the naked eye in the dark. So I suggest setting up additional red LED light panels to fill in larger areas that are not well resolved in the night vision mode, and to make it harder for bad guys to immediately find and disable the Izon camera. When the camera goes into alarm mode, or when you command a camera to record via the App, then the short video and audio recorded by that camera at the scene too are recorded and kept at Stem Innovations servers. Audio can be more important than video since many bad guys anticipate video cameras and will wear a hoodie or a mask. After a video is recorded you can select to save it or delete it from your App. If you want copy of the video (for police evidence, etc.) then you must contact Stem and they will make the recording available to you. One cannot store recording direct to your own device without going through Stem - a minor inconvenience if I were in a hurry but I have no needed to do so, thank goodness. I have preferred the black cameras over the white, and I blacked out the shiny silver trim on the face of each camera, a black marker works just fine. All this makes it easier to hide the cameras in shadows. The camera can easily be set to trigger from noise (adjustable levels of sensitivity) or motion (user can adjust the area of coverage of one squarish or rectangular zone), or both. But as ‘intelligent’ as these Izon cameras (and many other too are) they can be fooled. If pointing the camera to outdoors looking through a window then depending on the orientation (East/South/West) sunlight can cause glaring reflections off the window and camera, these make it impossible to view the area being covered by the camera. It is difficult to use their detection features in a setting if your camera field of view can be flashed by sunlight through wind-blown trees, or at night by passing car headlights, or by neighbors lights going on and off, or yapping dogs for example; these can trigger sound or motion detection. Even wind moving tree limbs can trigger motion detection, so if your camera covers home approaches set the motion to exclude bushes or shorter plants that can be moved by the wind. It’s a learning and refinement process. Ion customer service has been timely when I had questions, receptive to suggestions (adding sorting the order of cameras as they appear in my App for example), and soon making it easier for users to download and store their recorded videos without asking Izon (Stem Innovations) to provide them. Their 720 resolution is sufficient and moderates demand on bandwidth. Though I look forward to higher res models in the future, and maybe a camera built to work outdoors too. Thanks Stem!

Doesn't allow export of videos!

DannyGGGT

This app allows all of the expected control of your Izon camera, and some not-so-expected - like delimiting a specific area of where's covered to alert you to motion. Nice. But it is NOT POSSIBLE TO EXPORT recorded video natively! I'm forced to hook up to my Mac and screen-record while I play the video if I want to keep one. That is ridiculous... minus 3 stars.

Waste

Wish I could give ZERO STARS. All I know is the cameras don't work with the app! I cannot get them to sync. It's almost as if the company who made the izon cameras made props that plug in and are selling them AS IF they are real. I can't imagine selling such useless garbage and being able to sleep at night. I don't want to be harsh; I'm just hoping to spare others. So glad I did NOT give any as gifts - then, I'd be angry.

App works great!

austinvc1994

I've had this app for a few years now and it works just like it is supposed to. I don't understand all the negative reviews. The motion detection works just the way it's is supposed to and so do the push notifications. Sometimes I do get sunrise and sunset notifications but it's no big deal. The important part is that I get a notification when it detects movement. I'm always able to adjust the area that detects movement and can easily turn off notifications if necessary.

Should have a Zero rating

I have had my IZON cameras for years. Initially they work very well....but for some reason...they are horrible. I have updated equipment (router, etc), and the largest bandwidth possible from cable. The cameras and app are updated and are the current version for each...horrible, horrible, horrible. You're lucky to connect (after waiting), and forget trying to use motion etc...constantly grayed out- unless you wait, and hit other buttons. Don't waste your money.

Great Cameras & Great App

TahoeLala

These cameras and the app to control them are great. Being able to monitor my house and receive notifications if something is awry is an invaluable tool. Spying on the dog is just a fun, added bonus :) It’d be fun if the microphones were two-way so that I could talk to the dog, but it’s probably better that I can’t because if she heard my voice, I bet she’d lick the camera, obscuring the view with slobber! I updated both the app and the camera firmware. They work brilliantly together. The app is stable, no crashes. The speed of the app has increased and I think the video quality got better. Overall, I think they’ve done a great job with this system!

I love my cameras!!!

I have had my cameras now for some time now and they work great. The live video feeds are awesome for when I am away on vacation or business, allowing me to view anytime. When I ran into an issue, I contacted the support team and they did a great job helping me resolve my issue.
