Sadness and mistrust. That is my takeaway from these developers. I Created scores of projects on iThoughts and was very pleased with results. Then, lost the iPad so the data was restored onto a new iPad from backup. With a new iOS, & new version of iThoughts, the original files and data could not be recognized. Searched for translators, but no luck. Developer gave an excuse that it was Apples fault and that they are blameless. That excuse, appears implausible.
Mind mapping is a simple but brilliantly effective activity to sort thoughts. It is so simple in fact, that it does not translate well to the computer. The whole point of mind mapping is to avoid the clutter, focus on simple, clear objectives and chain of task. It’s not hard to find mind map apps but unfortunately, they all do basically the same thing - overlook the basic need of handwriting to mind map effectively. This one is no different. Forced to use the keyboard, are sucked back into left brain thinking, must follow the method of thinking that works for someone else (the developer), which is exactly the opposite of what mind mapping should be.
Was considering buying but could not get the trial version to do anything. Why can’t the trial just be a blank map to experiment with? Limited functions is fine and fair for developer. The super cluttered map I was confronted with did not provide me with a way to get a quick idea of how to get started or how steep the leaning curve would be.
Come on this is just a read-only version of iThoughts and it did well. I finished my mind map yesterday on my mac and tried to open the file in iCloud from my phone this morning as I thought it would be plain text or something that I can just view from my phone. But it is not. So I searched and found this app. Just perfect to display my mind maps on phone as I prefer to edit with computer.
Before you download this app and complain that it is limited, keep in mind that this is the trial version of the software. It works absolutely fully and comes with large sample. The only limitation is that you can only include 20 nodes, but that’s more than enough to find out if you enjoy the software. Considering the reasonable price on the full version, it’s extremely awesome of the developers to have a trial version. It’s an awesome way to try out iThoughts without having to pay for it. While the app seems complicated at first, it’s actually quite easy to use. Quick keystrokes (Tab and Enter) will let you grow your map quickly. Just get in there with a test map and start pushing buttons and you’ll soon find out how it works. I love that the full version is not a subscription. I know MindNode gets a lot of attention, but iThoughts gives you a full featured mind map software for a lot less $$. If anything the interface is quicker to use. Thanks for the free trial. Now it’s time for me to go buy the full version.
Wonderfully designed app. Please don’t be deceived by the ratings. Everything is intuitive and you will feel right at home. Grateful to the developers
