I have used iTalk for years now and it has served me well. The UI is very well designed and simple to use, the recordings are extremely high quality (on "best" mode"), and it's very easy to transfer recordings from the phone to the computer. I highly recommend giving iTalk a try if you're in the market for an app to make and manage your own recordings on the iPhone.
Good News & Bad News

The good news is the app is super simple and also offers very clear Audio quality recordings with little background noise. The bad news is you are limited to only ONE file format AIFF only! No option for MP3 or MP4 Or Wav Format or CAF format just the one AIFF format that is the major downside.
Do not upgrade to premium

Do not upgrade to premium if you have hopes of having your files available to email through the app. The premium and non premium apps seem to be different with no interface. You cannot access your recording after having upgraded to premium,which basically defeats the very purpose of upgrade.
Good but crashes periodically

Used app through school to record lectures and it worked well. Latest update crashes periodically leaving no recording. No solid reason for crash, seems to occur if another (particular?) app is run while recording. This did not occur with previous versions, but I was listening astutely, not playing with phone.
Love the new sharing options

My only complaint before was the cumbersome method of transferring recordings. Very happy to see the new Airdrop and Dropbox share sheet options!
A radio reporter's best friend

I can't say enough good things about the iTalk app. An essential tool for any radio reporter who needs to file a quick voicer raw. Simple to use, fires up immediately in the record position when launched. Hard to imagine doing my job these days without it.
Few adjustment that would be great

Not syncing to Dropbox. Having difficult exporting file from iTunes unlike I used. And would also prefer to adjust the playback speed
