Igowin Life

One of the fastest ways to get stronger at the strategy game "go" is to practice solving life and death problems. A game often depends on the life or death of a group of stones, so knowing the difference is vitally important.

Great app!

I love the way the difficulty is adjusted on your skills, making the app as addictive as igowin. It's the most fun way to work on Go problems I know.

Needs problem upload
Myshkin55417

If this app would just let you upload your own problem collections, it would be killer (preferably in the same format used by GoGrinder or similar). The magnifying glass can appear in awkward positions making stone placement difficult. After playing for a while, the stone placement is REALLY BAD. Getting the stone to land in the right spot is more challenging than the problems. This causes you to get easier and easier problems just because of misclicks due to the poor UI

I'm getting better
oldpinano

I was going to complain about the repetitiveness of problems until I realized the repetitions were burning the answers into my brain. This is making me faster at simple problems, so I can even begin to think about harder ones. Great learning tool.

good, but needs more instruction
ijamu

I am enjoying this app so far. I think the concept it genius. But the execution is a bit lacking. Many of the exercises have no explanation, they end abrubtly, or both; they assume I know why I placed a stone, when it was really just instinct. This makes it difficult to understand or visualize the /whole/ solution; often, I wish I could play out the exercise even after it says it is complete.

One of the most frustrating apps ever
Kiemoe

This app is so inaccurate on the tiny iPod touch's screen that most of the time that I get the wrong answer it's because it thought I was trying to go somewhere else. Even the zoom function doesn't help, it still gets it wrong. Maybe if you didn't derank at such a violent speed it wouldn't be as bad, but every misclick sets you back a good 5 minutes. Also, sometimes I find solutions that aren't the preset ones that successfully turn the tables, but when I do them it just says "wrong" while the screen shows me clearing out the board just as well or better. It just looks kind of ignorant. Lastly, the AI could be a tiny bit better, sometimes when I play I predict moves that the AI could have done to beat me but they don't, and that makes life and death problems a little weird to solve.

Frustrating and tedious
Lonely squirrel

This app has a usability problem which is so severe that it becomes a waste of time. Its correct answers are long sequences, sometimes over 8 moves, where you need to play ladders out or capture obviously dead stones. Any error demotes you severely. Think you solved it and click 'Next Problem'? Sorry, lose 3 levels: the correct answer was to actually capture the stones in atari that you just killed. Misclick on the next problem? 2 wrong in a row, demotion at double speed. Then, when you finally do get one wrong for real, it doesn't even tell you the answer! It's like the authors don't want you to learn anything. Instead they challenge you by making it hard to progress with the game levels. That won't help your Go game. In the end you will spend all your time with this app solving problems that are too easy for you and fighting the interface, instead of actually practicing Go.

Best and cheapest English life/death app
Amiantos

As far as I can tell the only other English Go problems app on the App Store is considerably more expensive than this one, hiding tiers of problems behind IAP. This one does no such thing. As with all things Go, understanding these Go problems requires a lot of thinking and an understanding of Go found elsewhere, outside of this app. This app won't teach you how to play Go. It's not going to teach you the exact reasons why the problems work: it's on you to understand what you're doing and why. I don't think this is a shortcoming. I also think the control scheme is fine. I usually never miss a tap, and the long-press magnifier ability is just fine and seems accurate to me. I look forward to an iOS 7 update with full screen support on my iPhone 5s!

Great App!
Brym

Very helpful for me as a go beginner.

Very useful missing small features
Jasonstreetfighter

This app is perfect for solving go problems before bed and when waking up or just solving some on the go one feature missing is the setting to preview a move before placing it to prevent miss clicks also would be nice to start at a higher level other than that it works great

iOS 11 Compatibility?
scooob

This app and all the other Igowin apps are displaying Apple's warning message when opened that it is not compatible with iOS 11 and must be updated by the developer. Mr. Fotland, will you be doing so? I hope so because I bought them all to support your Smart Games business, and I use this one regularly in particular. Thanks!
