The HP-41CX, and Then Some!

HP-41CX User

It’s a testament to the affinity people have to the HP-41CX calculator that someone would develop an app that is not only a faithful reproduction of this venerable calculator, but actually improves upon it. Downloading and setting up the i41CX+ is a breeze. The modules are a snap to import. The documentation is clear and easy to understand. I was able to easily import my personal programs into the i41CX+ on my iPhone, then export them to emails, and then import them from the emails into an iPod Touch that I also use. I'm glad to be able to easilly backup my programs on email. The app makes it extremely easy to do. The HP-41CX got me through my electrical engineering curriculum. Having the i41CX+ easily accessible on my iPhone and iPod Touch makes me feel like I have an old friend back. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this app!

The new widget is awesome

I’ve been using i41CX since it first came out and it’s the best HP-41CX emulator out there (its actually better than a my real HP-41CX since its faster, smaller and has more functions). The extensions for CAS and GPS support are well done. It continues to support my original iPad 1 with IOS 5.1.1 yet takes advantage of IOS 8 by adding a widget so you can do quick calculations or even run the full calc as a widget. If you’re looking for an RPN calculator you can’t go wrong with i41CX+, I like it better than PCalc

So powerful I may never fully plumb the depths of this app

March 2 2015: Thanks for the update. I'd give this app 6 stars if I could. ------ This is the most amazing app I've ever seen. I bought it years ago, thinking I merely had a powerful calculator. Only recently did I discover the huge number of FREE plug-in modules, which turn the i41CX+ into any number of specialty calculators. For example, if you 1) put the FINANCE module into one of the 4 open slots, 2) set it to the FINANCE overlay and 3) type XEQ [ALPHA KEY] MONEY [ALPHA KEY], you will have yourself a financial calculator so powerful it'll bring tears to your eyes. This one example only scratches the surface of what you can do with this app There is so much more to this app module-wise, but on top of that it has programmability and CAS. You can view a printer tape and email results. The question is, what can this calculator NOT do? Downloading the modules is how you tap into the multitude of abilities this app has, then follow the 3 steps above for the particular calculator you want the i41CX+ to become. . I recommend getting the Mini Manual to help you get going. It's a free download, easily found in any search engine. Footnote: about a month ago, I did buy a dedicated Financial calculator for $8 in the App Store. As good as it is, it turned out I wasted that $8, since what I described above far and away surpasses it. I had questions which the developer promptly responded to, that's always a huge plus for me.

Totally worth the money

I've had this app since September 2014, and I turn to it constantly. It is so good, I deleted all the other calculators on my phone. I still have my 41CX, but I use this version much more often. I feel it was totally worth the money. My current complaint is that it's taking over 1GB on my phone. Why? The app is about 130MB, so why does it need so much more for data and documentation? I want to minimize this. Please tell me how, or implement it. My phone is only 16GB, and I can't have the app taking up so much of it.

RPN at its best

The reviews are all correct. Common theme, we all love HP calculators, this app does it justice. This company is always trying to make it better.

The Hp41cx at its best

Will load all modules and raw program files. With the included CAS system this calculator is GREAT. Longtime hp calculator users will be amazed with this app!

A Perfect Calculator App!

Mashara!

It's rare to find an application that go beyond all expectations, but this app, the i41CX+, is stellar! The developer touts that "this is the finest and most powerful engineering/scientific/financial calculator for iOS devices bar none." Well this user is in agreement! After spending $160 on a scientific calculator this past week I now regret that decision. The i41CX+ purchase was a better choice and well worth the money!

Great calculator!

I had the real thing back in the 80's and this is much better and a better deal also!

A truly quality app

When these calculators came out I pounced on it. I was in college at the time and dealt with some heady math in my Nuclear Engineering courses. Well when mine broke later in life I could not get it fixed. Then I saw this app on the App Store. Was that ever a great purchase. All the functionality of my hp-41C and all the modules to boot. Please keep up the good work.

Still the best

I'm a big HP RPN fan. I've tried a few of the RPN calculators on the App Store, and this is by far my favorite. It's basically a perfect copy of a 41CX. How could it be anything less than perfect? Great key response, good speed, and nice additions (like clock sync). Also, the printer functionality works great. I think this application is an effective balance between nostalgia factor (interface) and practicality. This app is constantly updated with amazing new features, like compass/GPS access and CAS! It's probably the best updated and maintained app on the App Store! Edit: frequent updates and clever features help ensure this is still best calculator app you can get. I tried PCalc because of the non-stop recommendations by the Apple blogger crowd, and found it lacking compared to trusty i41CX+! PCalc is nice, and admittedly the UI customization is superior, but I trust the algorithms and accuracy on i41CX more (they are based on the 41 after all), and the library of Pacs is unmatched. First thing I tried to do in PCalc was run a simple TVM analysis… unavailable! On i41CX+, no problem. Ditto for IRR and CF analysis. Ditto for astronomical calculations. And so on. Soulver is probably the best for casual arithmetic needs, PCalc for TI users, but for the professionals that swear by HP, i41CX+ is the only way to calculate.
