Locking away previously free content behind a paywall is not ok.

Deadly cup

Sure, the app looks and runs fine but delisting all of your episodes from iTunes and charging $4.99 a month to listen to stuff that's been free for years? Screw that. Guess I just won't support your shows anymore.

Should be free

Should be free

I hope this company flops

Who in their right mind thought it be a good idea to lock old podcasts episodes behind a paywall. You're losing new listeners by the day If you expect people to pay to understand what's essentially inside jokes. Find the episodes you want free online with a quick google search. Let this company die out slowly.

This is fine

Wow, people here do not like being asked to pay for podcasts. No one is obligated to provide free content. I'm fine with paying 34.99 for a year of 100s of podcast episodes

Terrible.

I hate this stupid app...to all who are thinking of getting this, please don't. I rarely write reviews and it takes a lot to make me write one. However, the stupidity of this app warrants a one star review from me.

Whiny dudebros aside...

I wasn't super happy to see some of my favorite podcast episodes put behind a paywall, but whatever. I decided to play ball and give this a shot. There are some good things here, but not much, and it seems like they aren't making much effort to add new content. There are a lot of things that look like they could be promising but they only have a couple of episodes. It's also weird that they don't just have all the earwolf stuff up on Howl. Overall it seems kind of slapdash and poorly conceived. I'm generally willing to pay for something worthwhile, but unless they start adding a ton of new stuff with some regularity, I can't see myself wanting to pay for more than a few months of this. If you're going to ask people to pay for stuff they can get elsewhere for free (comedy podcasts aren't in short supply), you need to make it valuable.

Paywall Shmaywall

Everything I pay to listen to "Commercial free" has commercials!!!! Be it a live show with them wedged in (not a huge deal if it's funny), to an archived showed where they aren't taken out!! I like the app and the contents, but feel if I'm paying for it you should make the effort of taking the commercials out or I can just listen for free on iTunes. Your move Earwolf!!

Great Archive, Alright App

First off, in response to the other reviews complaining about having to pay for full access, tough crap people. Like it or not, this is a capitalist society we (or at least most of "we") live in and the great podcasters and comedians who put stuff out for us all to enjoy have eat and pay bills just the same as we do. At first I was skeptical about paying for a "podcast-streaming service" as well, since podcasts are traditionally free, but, hey, its less per-month than a Patreon donation and you get so much great material. Bite the bullet and get a Howl.FM account and you won't regret it. When it comes to the app itself, though, I do have some issues. This is not as streamlined a service as the basic iOS podcast app. I can "favorite" things but not "subscribe" to them, so I have to dig through the "favorites" list to find what series I want to listen to. Trying to organize a "play next" list gets complicated: if you want to listen to podcasts not in the same series or even in the same series but out of chronological order you need to create a playlist, which is a hassle I don't have time for most days. I would like to see an easier "tag" search function that can find other podcasts various people have appeared; for instance, I'd like to be able to click the photo of Paul F. Tompkins on a series home page and be able to see what other stuff he has available across the archive. TL;DR... Howl.fm Premium is worth it; screw the haters. The app itself is fine, but improvements could certainly be made and I'm sure are indeed on the way.

Wish I could give negative stars

Horrible service & very misleading.

Needs improvement

The app and website seem to be plagued with a bunch of problems. Hopefully they will fix the kinks, Id rather just listen to the free stuff on iTunes or online without the problems
