The App Will Not Start?

SmackAttackGaming

I have just re-downloaded this app three times, and yet it still doesn't work. It worked before a year or so ago, but after having it was deleted for a long time (and then trying to look into this app again) it just does not want to work. I even tried deleting some things to make room for storage, and then opened the app. I still cannot use it. At this point I am pretty sure this is a bug, and it would be great if you, the developers, could fix it. Thank you.

Still no Brazilian Portuguese? :(

Stay away—free trial was not a trial and immediately charged for the subscription

Disappointing—I really thought this was a great concept, but despite very clear markings that the free trial would give you a two week period to look at the app with no charges until after the two weeks was up, my bank account was immediately charged the almost $250 yearly subscription. Thankfully the App Store refunded my money, but it will take me 3-5 days to see the credit back. Until the developers have this billing worked out, it is too much money to be charged for an unknown no matter how good the concept.

I don’t trust this app. they asked me my password again in apple account after that I accept to download it with fingerprint. so I login as they ask to my apple account with the password, but this login should not come!!

Effective Tool

passionate about languages

I find the FluentU application extremely effective in developing my language. By using this application on a regular basis, I could remember the new Vocabulary and phrases for a very long time compared to attending a course in a Language school to be honest. The application is easy to use, has a wide variety of video clips for all levels and a system to review the learned vocabulary. It’s really great and I highly recommend it.

I’ve changed my mind. Don’t waste your money

When I initially subscribed to FluentU, I thought it was awesome. Watch videos in the target language and pause with a simple hover over with the mouse (on the computer). Vocab lists with key words. It seemed like the perfect alternative to textbooks or podcasts. Now that I’ve been using it for almost a year, I must say I’m incredibly disappointed. The app has a very robotic voice for sentences and doesn’t connect to videos well. This means phone or tablet review time becomes painful to the ears (I can’t handle the robotic sound for that long) or is void of listening all together. The website has the same annoying robotic voice, and you can’t even turn it off there. Videos don’t have consistent audio, so if you’re doing review, you go from straining to hear one video to getting your eardrums blasted out the next. You can download PDFs of the transcripts, but you cannot download word lists or copy anything from the website or PDFs. This means that anytime you don’t know a word (Chinese characters!), you can’t copy and paste it into an online dictionary to check. This is especially infuriating when they use the wrong character (this happens at least once every 2 vids I watch with traditional characters) and you’re trying to figure out if the character really is the wrong one. When they do use the wrong characters, they take forever to make the changes, if they do so at all. There’s a backlog of wrong characters from November that I reported that still haven’t been changed now, in June. Not being able to download word lists also means you can’t export your word lists to websites/apps that work way better for memorization, like Memrise and Duolingo’s tiny cards. Finally, the Chinese videos don’t have anything from more recently than 2014. While learning about Obama meeting with HuJintao is interesting, there’s been a massive change in world events (and leaders) since then. The most recent tech video is about the iPhone 5. For $30/ month, I expect there to be much newer materials than that. It’s like FluentU got a customer base and then decided that they weren’t going to take the time and use that subscriber money to add any new content. For now, it’s a waste of time and money. Duolingo and Memrise are perfectly usable in their free versions, and significantly more sensibly priced for their paid materials.

The method is awesome

HikarusGF

The app still doesn't have all the features the website has, but it's the best method I've used so far out of the literally dozens of Japanese learning methods out there.
