Good idea, but bad user interface

DCS4

This app needs a to and from, not home and trip. I just came home from Beijing, and I can not make the app properly schedule my jet lag. It seems ok for going on the trip, but if you start part way through a trip you are already taking, this app is very difficult to work with.

I have no idea what's going on

I tried to make sense of this and I can't. Once I finally trick it to take my data, the recommendation to stay awake for 4 hours then sleep for 18 then sleep for 17 then up for 5....WTH? It's not even possible. Fail.

Advice not actionable

While this app offers the output of a mathematical model, I can't find any real-world use for it. This app more or less advises you to turn your lights on and off to match the time zone you are traveling to. Brilliant insight, who knew. But should I sleep with the lights on? Or stay up all night reading? Bizarrely, the app doesn't provide guidance on the actual question of when to sleep. Without this, I'm not sure what the usefulness is.

Great idea; more data options needed

I really wanted to like this app but I couldn't figure out how to submit my data for my real world situation. That would be, AFTER my travel rather than the ideal situation of before the travel. In my opinion it needs one more set of travel input fields: point of origin, date, time. It also would be helpful if dates / times before "today" could be input. Then I could log in the fact that I left Melbourne two days ago and got back - the same date that I left; earlier in the day; and after having spent 27 hours traveling across 16 time zones. I'd love to see the app's recommendations for how to use light to recover from this travel. Without a point of origin, the app seems very difficult to use.

Point in time vs as-of

App looks really promising. I recently came back from a trip to Europe but could not enter my trip arrival date in the past. The app feature therefore doesn't appear to look back even after I spent time entering all historical data

Promising concept, weak execution

Found this app from a link in the NYTimes (via the LA Times). With a shout out from major newspapers, I expected at least a semi-professional app. But, the design and user experience are both lacking (rule of thumb: if it's not a seafood menu, don't use the Lobster typeface). Worst of all, the actual content of the app, its suggestion for me to adjust to an upcoming trip, was comically unrealistic. Yes, let me start turning the lights on in the middle of the night 4 days prior to my flight, like that won't be equally (if not more) disruptive than jet lag itself?

Doesn't allow for real travel data

kwynot

I just returned from Asia to US. But I can't enter those travel dates as the app only allows for predicted travel. I will try again for future trip. Even so, we all know that flights change more often than not especially for intercontinental travel. It seems like the app should allow for back data (actual travel rather than predicted) - at least for up to a few days after arrival. I'm going to try to fool the app by entering my travel as upcoming. But this is a small design flaw with big implications for research as real data cannot be entered.

Fine Leaving, not returning

Hawkhand

Like others, I used the app traveling from the US. I was very pleased with the results. Now 40 days later l'm returning and nothing I can do produces a valid shift schedule. I got the dreaded 'you are shifting 0 hours.' Then after careful reset of base time, it said I was making a 2 hour shift. I'm going to delete and reinstall because I really wanted to follow the app recommendations, it made my travel a lot more comfortable. And hey, it's free, so props to the makers. PS -- Going to Settings and hitting reset is 'basically like deleting and reinstalling' and I was able to generate a good schedule. I'm going to be wearing heavy dark glasses for all the stretches -- well into afternoon-- I'm supposed to be 'dark'.
