Getting better

Mobilemind

Version 4.2.0 seems stable and reliable again. Hang in there you will grow to love this app. If you had bad experiences or heard bad things, give it a try. Past issues seem resolved, based on last few days. I’ve been using this app since the first release of Cloak in 2013. Usability & dependability fell off a cliff in late 2016. That persisted until February 2018. Versions 3.4.x, 3.5.x, 4.0.x, and 4.1.x had infuriating problems— blocking all internet, failing to connect, problems supporting email (IMAP), spontaneous quits, need to log back-in or uninstall & reinstall. Many tech support tickets, much back & forth with engineering- nothing resolved things. I had given up hope. Several reviews from that era mirror my experience across multiple devices, iOS releases and networks. Now it feels like it works almost as well as it ever did. Time will tell. As for me, I am liking this app again.

Really like this program!

Great job

Encrypt.me has worked perfectly for me here in the US, and also worked flawlessly in London and Ely, when I was in England this year. Connections were fast and strong.

Version 4.2 doesn’t work

Evan_13

Used to be perfectly reliable under Cloak. Now, Encrypt.me ships with more bugs out of the gate. - won’t stay connected - VPN fails and the app logs out due to an error - reconnect attempt gets stuck connecting and blocks all WiFi communication - issue shows itself under Settings, General, then VPN- VPN shows disconnecting and never changes status.

Conflict with connecting with WiFi

Recently have been having connectivity issues need to remove the Encrypt.me app to be able to get WiFi. Not worth the aggravation.

Most frustrating app when it fails...

I really, really want to like this app since it offers a consistent interface and experience across my devices. Problem is... it’s become consistently more frustrating with each update. Pro tip: Don’t even think about turning on ‘Auto-Secure Connections’ unless you want your device’s internet connection to be cut off and held hostage at some point. I haven’t been able to get it to work properly on iPad, iPhone, or Mac - all updated to latest OS and app version, and with no other VPN apps/profiles installed. Last time it vice-gripped my internet connection and wouldn’t connect to any VPN nor let any other traffic in or out, I had to uninstall and reinstall the app. This was after trying the obvious things like turning off the auto-secure setting, flipping on airplane mode, force quitting the app, checking VPN settings, restarting the device, etc etc - I finally had to just uninstall the app to get my internet connection working again. Two stars because they integrated password managers into the login prompt, so it wasn’t so painful re-installing the app and getting it running again. PS I didn’t factor this into the rating, but I wanted to note that the official encrypt.me download page for the Mac app is unsecured which is a huge red flag, especially for a VPN provider. And to top it off, the unsecured download site hosts an outdated version of the app. Of course you don’t find this out until you download and install the app completely, and then you get a nice pop up saying hey there’s a new version you should download and install! As an end user this is the kind of stuff that drives us nuts!!! Please try harder to not make us pay the price of our time and attention for your technical disorganization. And please secure your app download site so we can have some better peace of mind!
