As a chess enthusiast, you know there are many situations that would be improved by a good chess book – but only a Grandmaster could read one without a chess set. Until now. This app gives you book and set, so you can read great chess literature anywhere, any time, without skipping over the long lines and subvariations.

Chess books, by their very nature, are more than just text. With this app, chess books can be everything they were meant to be.

FEATURES
● Read real, full-length chess books, without setting up one board for the main line and another for the variations (as recommended by various authors).
● Highlight important information.
● Add notes into pages.
● Solve puzzles – move the pieces around to see if your solution looks good. Tap the Solution button to see the answer. No need to rummage through the back of the book to check the solutions, and no danger of accidentally seeing the solution to the next puzzle while you’re checking the previous one.
● Ponder continuations – think about the position before tapping the Reveal button to see how the game proceeded (and whether the players chose the correct continuations).
● Study endings – play out the long solutions of endgame puzzles effortlessly, and get a proper feel for the technique involved.
● Tap on moves directly, or use the buttons under the live board to follow the main line, or to follow through moves as they appear in the text (main lines and variations).
● Tap on any diagram in the text to set it up on the live board.
● Change the text size, and the size of the diagrams in the text.
● Easy navigation through the book, by Contents, or Player, or Opening.
● Lookup words in a dictionary.
● The book remembers where you stopped reading and opens at that page for you.
● Read chess books on the train, on the bus, in the air, or while waiting interminably between any two modes of transport.
● Continue reading without worrying that the table will be cleared of your chess set for dinner, or that the cat will decide to sleep on the center squares, or that the kids will make off with it to use as an alien zoo.
● Have you really played through as many of the famous old classics as you would like? Take a chess classic to the armchair; relax and enjoy the fantastic variations, and the comments of the all-time greats.
● Build up a library of new books, great classics, and everything in-between.
● Enjoy chess books in any spare moment. Coffee and Capablanca? Muffin and Morphy? No problem. Tall skinny latte and Lasker, any time.
● Take your whole chess library on holiday – Botvinnik by the beach.
● Read chess books in the gym.
● Where else? Join us on our e+Blog and tell us where you read our chess books!

After 25 years, I finished ‘My System’
Njcwotx

25 years ago, I bought the paperback version of Nimzowitsch’s “My System”. Old school Descriptive Notation. I was new to chess, and i managed to read through a little of it, but it was just too much to go through the whole book page by page and juggle a chessboard and setup positions. I played several years at a big city chess club and felt like my rating I hit a wall only sticking to tactic books that were easier to consume. Then I came across this reader 2 months ago and decided to give it a try. Today, I am almost finished reading through Sherwood’s new translation of “My System”. I kept the old tattered paperback and referenced back to track my progress through it and found the new translation very consistent. Being able to read and have the interactive diagram follow the text while working through the material has opened a new door for me. I want to thank the app maker and the author for allowing me to work through these books with some efficiency. This has made a huge difference in my enjoyment of chess. If you are like me and have a life, wife, kids and career, but you need a better method than old-school book n board, then this is an excellent way to go. No more sitting in front of a computer screen at my desk either, the iPad and ebooks have finally made learning advanced chess material fun and rewarding!

Finally... A fantastic chess book app!

Well, I had heard that this was coming but that was a few months ago... I must say, it was well worth the wait! Simply elegant and seamless!

What a brilliant idea!

THIS is what the iPad is for: An interactive chess book. Comes with one free book and the option to buy others. Must have taken a lot of work to turn these books into interactive books. Hope they can get the rights to do some of the more popular books. My only gripe (and it's the same gripe with a lot of apps) is that I wish it had a thorough user manual built into the app. It's fairly intuitive, but still...

Much better than a plain eBook, the board sets automatically!
DJ2016

Brilliant app! Book on the left, board on the right. Tap any move in the text, and the board sets automatically to that position. Move pieces to analyze on the right, tap the left to reset and keep reading. Fits the iPad perfectly. No more pieces rolling on the floor, or needing two boards to follow the text. Very nicely done.

Best Chess Book Format

Excellent framework for chess instruction. Now they just need content to complete the puzzle. I look forward to all of Valeri Beim's works as well as Silman's Endgame Course and How To Reassess Your Chess 4th Edition. I am quite sure I will snap those up the day they are released.

Interactive Chess Books!
Chess ebook user

This is a great app for studying chess games, strategies, tactics, openings, and endgames! Half of your screen displays the book and the other half displays an interactive chess board. The chess boards follows the book's text automatically or you can control the pieces yourself. This app will surely become the "app of choice" for those who are serious about chess. As a fairly new app, there are less than a dozen chess ebooks available but more are sure to follow.

Awesome app!

This app is awesome. Very easy to study chess strategies, games, etc. I have nothing negative to say about it.

Must-have App for Chess Players
Rawrr8838737

This App let's you read through a chess book in 1/4 of the time by eliminating the time consuming step of setting up (and resetting for variations) the chessboard by hand. The board is there, the buttons for scrolling through are there, the variations are there for you. It makes a 500+ page book like Silman's Complete Endgame something you can read on the plane or in bed etc. on your iPad without a physical chessboard or a computer nearby. I love chessbooks. I dread the manual labor involved in typing the moves into Fritz or setting up my board. It breaks up the flow of the text. It takes too long. Problem solved! I preferr this interface to the other iPad chess viewer with the Everyman Press books. That publisher should cross-market their books through this reader. It's just better, in my opinion. Eagerly awaiting more books, like Reassess Your Chess: 4th Edition! Jhbchess
