Good but could be better

I LOVE the Dragon Quest series! I think this is an awesome addition. I love the story, art, and concepts! Although the gameplay is a bit grindy compared to the newer additions, and landscape mode is not an option, this game is worth it. (But can still improve!)

It’s kinda awesome. I bought it for iPhone when it first came out, but life happened and so I didn’t play it after a few hours. Recently I started playing it on my iPad, and now I’m hooked. I’m really enjoying the artwork, interface and story. I’m not really enjoying the movement controls, especially the camera, but it’s manageable. Also, landscape mode would be really nice to have. Since it’s stuck in portrait mode, it would be a treat to see this beautiful world in widescreen. My biggest gripe, and it’s major- I watched a YouTube video of the game because I was trying to figure out the location of an area, and the music that was recorded by an actual orchestra for the PS2 release is nothing short of brilliant... this version has it sequenced digitally instead. Which is a huge disservice to the dude who wrote the music because the soundtrack is exquisite... but lacks everything to be desired now that I’ve heard the orchestra version. I’m heartbroken by how bad this midi-hell digital rendition is in comparison (-_-,)

Poor framerate performance that is distracting and takes away from the quality of this great game. Playing on an iPhoneX- should be more than powerful enough to run this game well if it were optimized properly.

The game is not as bad as people say it is. Yes, the frame rate is pretty bad but, after awhile of play, it’s easy to get used to. The absence of voice, from what I’ve heard from the original DQ8, doesn’t take away from experience, (if anything it adds to it...). And for the controls, they’re pretty good in my opinion. I’m not a big DQ fan but I can still see why this is considered to be one of the best JRPGs of all time by just playing this port. I’m having lots of fun playing this and don’t regret my purchase. -The Verdict- DQ8 on mobile is not bad, but it certainly isn’t great. The polish it had is gone but the core game die hard fans know and love is still there.

I am so worried about breaking/losing my device and having to start all over because the cloud save doesn’t work. This game would have been 5 star if it wasn’t for this. I did end up losing my save and having to start over. I wish i never bought this

I've just started this game and so far I've had to wait a few minutes on two occasions for the game to unfreeze. The first was right before the first fight, and the second was during a save. I have an iPhone 6s and iOS 10 and I should NOT have these issues with a game that cost 20 dollars and only 1.8 gigs. If this problem persist as I play I'll have to lower the rating even further. I'd hate to have say I wasted 20 dollars on such a great game. Do better.
Best iOS RPG NEEDS iCloud Fix

PLEASE fix iCloud. I can’t transfer my saves from iPhone to iPad like all the others. It has to do with this specific app, not our settings. This port is beautifully done. I love the portrait view instead of landscape. It makes it so much easier to play on the go. My first Dragon Quest game was the original Dragon Warrior. And this is the second DQ game I've ever played. And this is amazing. On iPhone X it plays smooth and I have it in the background often. My phone never seems to heat up and the battery doesn't drain fast while playing. This game will get a LOT of play time. Square-Enix: Please keep up porting these amazing games and keep them premium without IAP. I'll keep investing in them!
