New favorite!

Wes (Awais)

Love the Dragon Quest series, love the mobile ports, so great and convenient to be able to play DQ anywhere on my mobile phone.

No examine function

You'll get stuck an hour or so in because the examine function wasn't included in the transition from of. For $15 I expected a better job!

Finally.

Best game of the series.

Support this so we get DQVII!

First, a response to someone complaining about the translation. It isn't meant to be natural, contemporary English. It's translated with a more old English vibe. There's nothing wrong with the subject/verb arrangement, and no, they didn't steal the translation from a fanhack (?). It was a stylistic choice, like it or not. The writing itself is charming and shines through the translation, which had a heck of a lot of work put into it. This is one of the most overlooked Dragon Quests. When it first came out on Super Famicom, the graphics blew everyone away. Coming out on the DS in English, however, and looking the same as DQ IV and V, it got overshadowed a little, and Nintendo didn't advertise it like they should have. What we have is one of the best kept secrets of the series, and it shouldn't be a secret. The storyline is a blast, closer to Chrono Trigger than to DQV. This game doesn't need to lean on graphics to succeed. It's charming, as well-designed as ever, and a blast. The iOS version is like joining up the two DS screens and taking out the gap, and upgrading the resolution. It looks and sounds great on iPhone and iPad, and you can play it one-handed on your phone. It is uniquely suited to portrait mode due to being played that way on the DS (just on two separated screens instead of one joined screen). It's a little weird playing with touchscreen controls, but again, you can play one-handed!

Excellent port!

This is another in a great line of ports from the Nintendo DS to IOS. I hope that Square Enix continues this trend, and ports over Dragon Quest 7! It's one of the best I've played, and unfortunately my PS2 won't play my PSX disc. :-( One slight issue is the cloud save doesn't work from IPhone to IPad. I was playing on my phone because it was easier, but now I can't transfer it back to my iPad.

Another Great RPG (UPDATED)

Thank you Square Enix for fixing the movement speed issue! It was far too touchy and difficult to precisely move your character around in towns and dungeons, because everything was too fast. Now I don't have a single complaint about the game! 5 stars. See my review for 1.0 below (4 stars) I am really enjoying the game so far. All of the Dragon Quest games except for V are in my iOS collection so far. The graphics and sound are great for what they are, but you don't play Dragon Quest for the graphics, it's the amazing stories! My only gripe so far is the speed. Character movement is far too fast and touchy for a iPhone game. It could be slowed down to match DQIV and would be easier to control. I would love an option to adjust this in a future update. That aside, it's a nice game and now we finally get to experience the game in English!

Good game

Good game, controls are the same as DQ5, storyline is good, quite worth my money and time.

Finally! My favorite in the series!

DQ6 often gets over-looked, but its a fantastic game and my personal favorite entry. What really makes DQ6 stand out is the characters. It's such a rich and memorable cast! Truly one of the best in the series. You don't have blank slates here, each character in your party has their own story (classes are adjusted later on). Some you can even miss the chance to add to your party! They might be cliches, but they aren't annoying or distasteful. The story moves along at a good pace (at least towards the beginning). It's also solid port with difficulty turned slightly down, moving things along even faster. Works well on my iPhone6, letting me go in and out of the app, or will auto save if I use another intensive app. UI and menu system is clunky, but makes little difference for a turn-based rpg.

Great port

Almost exactly the same as the DS version. My only complaints so far is that the lack of top screen view made it extremely hard to follow Rod in Pescado, and my Dream Scapes aren't showing up at Suite Dreams. Other than that I haven't seen anything else I don't like.

Awful on iPad

Tupungato

It should not list the iPad as a compatible device for this game. Sure, it works, but it is portrait only and simply blown up for the screen. It is so pixelated it hurts my eyes and is unplayable.
