Avoid: Doesn’t work anymore

CppChick

I’ve had this app for a year now and it doesn’t play any sounds anymore. The last update was a year ago. People have asked for stopping the playback of the environmental sounds and I agree, but the developer still hasn’t offered this option. You always have to play an environment, fitting or not, to hear sound FX. This is now a rotted out app with no further innovation applied.

Not a very great app...

An app that has potential, but turns out to be a D&D themed app rather than a good D&D music app. First and foremost, I'd much rather have a better improved music app than have the dice rolling this app offers. Sure the dice rolling is nice if I didn't have dice, but you can't really call yourself a DM if you don't have some dice. Furthermore, you might as well us Game Master 5 or Fight Club 5 if you really needed an app to play the game. Now what makes this a relatively bad app is mainly the mixer... it doesn't really do much. All of the ambient sounds are played on the music channel meaning you can't increase or decrease the volume of the ambient sounds and the music separately. To make it much worse, all of the ambient sounds are MUCH too loud. They also have a number of sound effects which basically play just a single sound once and this is what the "sound effects" portions of the mixer controls... so yeah that makes the ambient sounds basically useless if you want to actually hear the music. Another thing that makes this app sub-par is that everything is in menus. You don't have a sound board or anything that you can edit to make finding the right ambient sounds or right music easier aside from a "favorites," but that's pretty terrible for a sound app, especially for one in a game as active as D&D. Every time you want to switch the environment, you have to do so manually by swiping through multiple menus, for music and ambience separately, weather too if you want to use that. As for sound effects? You better not want to use those on a whim because you'll have to swipe through those manually as well. If you really want a good customizable music app, use Audio Board, an app specially made to allow you to make a custom sound board. The only downside to it is that you can't play from multiple boards at once, but it's still much better than this app. UPDATE 3/11/18: Yeah... i decided to try and give this another chance, but it’s absolutely useless. Don’t purchase this app, there’s no way to organize the FX or music or what give you aside from the standard alphabetical. So if you want to take forever to set up everything, then sure this app might be for you? But yeah, this needs a way to organize everything into sets that are relevant to certain settings. And i mean sets as in select FX, Nature, AND music, not the worthless semi-organization in each individual theme. Hell, even if they app just made it more user friendly, such as give a single button to mute everything immediately (without having to navigate through a second menu to do so) as well as buttons to do things like say... mute just the nature sounds or music? Hell give me a way to silence the nature sounds period and I’d find just the weather to be at least sort of decent. As it stands? Don’t purchase this app. Just go use something like AudioBoard. You may have to set up more stuff by yourself, but it’s more customizable and, sadly, much more user friendly.

Pretty Great! But...

So I like it, but honestly there’s a few things I’d change. 1) Some actual in-app tutorials or explanations of the custom dice rolls and some of the more complicated features would be nice. 2) Some additions to the sound library it comes with would be rather nice. Under weather, I mean, you don’t have just... wind? A lot of areas are a bit lacking. 3) Biggest thing of all, when you first open the app it says it’s meant to be played through a hi-fi speaker system. Alright. Understandable. But the thing is, you can’t even preview things unless you have speakers or headphones or something plugged in. It just... deliberately WILL NOT play out of your phone’s speakers. And if I’m just setting something up, testing things out, messing around... I don’t care about sound quality. Let me hear it!
