Beatgrids

BlameTheDJ

I really want to love this app and while there are a ton of great features that make it superior to its competitors, it fails in one major area, beatgrids. Only having the ability to set a grid mark or adjust the wave is simply not enough control to make proper adjustments. You need the ability to mark the down beat throughout the track. Until then I pass.

I signed up for this in early October 2020 because it said it still worked with Spotify, though, and to be fair, they did say Spotify was terminating its cooperation with this app without giving an exact date for when that was going to happen. But when I signed up for the 7-day trial period, Spotify still worked. Since there the developer provided no use-by date on Spotify’s termination of their contract/cooperation/whatever, I downloaded it, played around with it one night then forgot about it and let the 7-day trial period lapse. Which was fine and is totally on me. Today I realized it had been more than seven days, so I went in to try it and suddenly Spotify doesn’t work and I’ve been charged $39.99 for an entire year’s subscription. So, does Spotify still work for people testing this with the 7-day free trial and was I just baited and switched? Or am I just one of those super unfortunate people who happened to test drive this app during the exact timeframe that Spotify was cancelling their relationship with Djay? Beyond that, why was I charged $39.99 for a full year (and yes I’m sure that’s what it says in the fine print that no one anywhere ever bothers to read, but congratulations, that puts you in the same league as the credit card companies and payday lenders) when I could have only been charged for a month that I would’ve happily paid, found out it really wasn’t useful for me and cancelled out with no hard feelings. Downloadable equivalent of the sucker punch.

This was a great app. I used it whenever I did any DJ gigs of any kind, always. Now? I can use it for ZERO of those gigs. Why? They removed Spotify support. The entire reason I got Djay 2 in the first place, and moved to this version shortly after its release. I rarely buy mobile apps, but I’ve spent good money on the Djay apps. It was worth it. But now? Now there’s no reason to keep this app around anymore. Nice work, guys. Way to ruin a great product. EDIT: It looks like Spotify support may still exist in the macOS version of this app, but why in the world would I spend that $50 price tag when they could just remove that support there too? Removing a key feature that was prominent in the app’s promotions back then — arguably the best feature of this app — from customers who paid for that feature? Honestly, if that’s not considered criminal it should be. They won’t see another penny from me, ever.

Upgrade is a downgrade

Two years ago I started using the DJ app. It was awesome easy to use loaded all your iTunes music and you can even make personalized inserts to add to the musicHow to push of a button. Two or three upgrades later when you can no longer use half of your iTunes music and the whole program is very hard to navigate and use. before I would gladly pay the $10 a month to keep this program but it is no longer worth it even if it was free.
