Other features of DianHua Dictionary include:
- Search History: All search terms entered into the Search field are stored in your Search History. Touch any term in the list to see the results.
- Bookmarks: Arrange all of the words you are studying into a nested hierarchy of Folders.
- Writing Practice: Under the Study tab, you can practice typing or writing characters using any of the iPhone's Simplified or Traditional keyboards, including the character drawing keyboards. Choose whether you want to see Pinyin and/or English for the prompt and draw or type the appropriate Chinese character into the box provided.
- Flashcards: Select any combination of Traditional, Simplified, English, and Pinyin for the Front and Back of the cards and grade your confidence in your answer. If you choose to use the Difficulty sorting algorithm, more difficult words will be shown more often than words you tend to answer correctly.
- Numbers: Convert numeric entries to Simplified and/or Traditional variants including their Banking equivalents. Touch the audio icon to hear arbitrary numbers spoken.
- DianHuaDictionary.com: Search from your browser, sync between multiple devices, export, and import data.
Use to find characters when you only know the pinyin, to find pinyin and English when you see a character you can't recognize (using iPhone's Chinese writing keyboard), etc. 3 dimensional usage has allowed me to eliminate need for the trusty old 小紅字典. Keep up the good work. Only concern is that no listing for this app appears when searching the app store for the term "Chinese".
Awesome app!!! Bought the audio-module just to support development. Combined with iPhone international keyboards, you can enter English, Pinyin, Chinese (via pinyin kbd) or draw characters. The most useful to me is entering two-syllable pinyin without tone after hearing a spoken word (e.g. lian xi). Adding tone (e.g. lian2) helps to restrict alternatives when looking up single chars. Bookmark to save words looked up (I create a folder per day), then review or use the flashcard feature to practice. The large display to trace characters is useful to show characters to others. Works off-line. Recommend setting Chinese char size to "giant" via settings.
I used to use Pleco on WM. It cost around $150! Then I got an iPhone and got this for free! Wow. I have several others I paid for but I continue to use this one. Would gladly pay for extra features like being able to create new words or custom dictinarys or phases that I can share with others.
have this and ktdict. ktdict more thorough in searches, but dianhua holds your search if you go to another app (ktdict is blank upon return). also can handle it when I paste in a phrase or sentence even though it gives way more unrelated searches on that phrase than mdbg.net. BUT CANT COPY OUT OF DIANHUA! :(
I can't believe how amazing this application is. It's free and works!! Now I don't need to carry around a Chinese dictionary anymore!!
