This app is great!!! It is a perfect app when traveling. Gives great insight to historical points of interest. Even in a familiar area, you can find historical sites that you may not have much knowledge. Clio is a top tier app!

A fantastic app for educators in History and Social Studies

“Clio - Your Guide to History,” by David Trowbridge, is a locator app, not unlike yelp, except that instead of giving the locations of restaurants and other businesses, it helps the user locate historical sites, cultural sites and centers, monuments and museums. When the user opens the app they are given a map of their local area peppered with red markers giving the location of local sites that have been uploaded or edited by users of the app and vetted by the Cilo staff. The user can then click on these markers for pictures, historical information, links to websites for more details and category tags. The app is clear and clean and very easy to use. The text in some places is a little small on the iPad, but otherwise it isn’t too difficult to read. It also runs smoothly, even when looking at sites through the integrated Google Street View. Street View and the addition of pictures for each entry add to the otherwise bland map. Perhaps the most useful feature of the app and its accompanying website is that a teacher can apply for a classroom account where teachers and their students can work together to create and improve entries together, which I could easily see being adapted into curriculum to support local real world research and recording skills, or researching already identified historical sites. It also provides a great tool for students to collaborate with each other to publish material that would be seen by many other people. All together, this is a fantastic app for history buffs who like to explore and educators and students in the classroom. I give this app five stars.

Vacation of Hades for My Kids

So we took this with us on our trip to Disney World. Such a great time learning because that is why you go to Disney, right? Should have seen the kids' faces when they got to learn all the way from Virginia to Florida. I think this made their whole vacation feel complete again. The images, the videos, and history all the while my kids yelling, "Noooooo," as if saying, "Why can't you get more information out FASTER!" All in all, this is a sound app and seeing as one of the things my 6 year old is telling people about our vacation was in fact something he saw and read here, I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone. Seriously this time. GET IT!

In a world where most mobile apps distract and make us less connected to the world around us, isn't it wonderful to have something like this? My students love this app, and they are better for it. Kudos and thank you to Marshall University for this one.
