I have the free version. I "lost" 2 games hitting buttons to find out what they did. How about some instructions with the menu? Also, I have played chess most of my life. I have always played against a living opponent. I have never played an electronic version before. How does one castle in this game? Again, how about some instructions in menu? Don't tell me to Facebook. I like my life private. My favorite line: I do not Face; I do not Twit; I do not Ya-hoo; And I never intend to! Menu does not have to tell how to play chess. It is safe to assume that one who uses it should already be acquainted with the game. However, it would be nice to know what all the little buttons do before one presses them and how to make special moves such as castling. This should have been obvious to the programmer. If one reaches an opponent's first rank with a pawn, can one change it to any piece they would want, and how?
I have been using the free version. The game playing skill of this game is good - it will challenge you at most levels of chess and can vary its game, play defensively or aggressively, etc. BUT it has some weaknesses. The biggest problems are 1) not having a record of pieces taken, so you have to count what is on the board to compare; 2) the difficulty of studying the board layout following a win or a loss (look fast because in a few seconds it is gone, never to return); 3) the lack of a two-player mode; 4) the lack of obvious signals when you are in check; and 5) the impenetrability of the scoring and levels system. (Incidentally, in response to a comment below, castling is easy - just try to move the king two squares over instead of one).
The free edition is probably about 1000 to 1300. Moves very quickly (can finish a game in 7 minutes). Many opening traps (lost many games because of that) Only grip is that the human player only plays white....
Music is very annoying , I wish it was possible to turn it off. Combinations played by computer become very predictable after several games, a little variety in strategy would've nice. Other then that concept of no replay is nice.
I played this ap up to level 10. I did not think there was a level 10 lol. Anyhow, for a phone ap it is OK, I did not think the ap played at a master level at level 9. It made too Many obvious blunders and can be baited easily. This ap may be too difficult for a novice player but is not as challenging as expected from the high levels and would be disappointing to the seasoned chess player.
