No Issues
greatful american

I’ve read several reviews on this app site concerning Catawiki. I thought I would briefly share my two experiences with possible future users. I have purchased two items from this site. One was a fairly expensive watch, or at least in the U.S. it had a price tag of over $700.00 every where else I looked online. I won the auction on this site and it was shipped to me, by the time it was all said and done, the watch cost me around 350.00. It did take about 2 weeks to receive it. But it was exactly as described and I was extremely satisfied with the purchase. The other item was pair of silver castings (for lack of better description). I had exactly the same experience with the site. It is nice to get the opportunity to buy items unique to the U.S. and not be pigeon holed into buying assembly line, cheaply made items from eBay. Unfair

Do not order on this platform in this period of COVID-19 pandemic. People are in quarantine and lots are not going be shipped. Despite this critical situation, Catawiki is still asking payments to be done as soon as possible with no guarantee the package will be delivered within the pre-established delivery times. In short, the platform is asking immediate payments for a service that cannot be guaranteed. The risk is to pay immediately and wait months for the packages to be delivered. In my personal experience, I have been waiting 2 months for a lot that still has to be shipped. I asked for a full or partial refund but, I have been told to stay still and wait because nothing can be done. Rather than offering other solutions like competitors are doing, such as paying part of the lot in order to get the ownership and, when it can be shipped, pay the rest. They force you to pay in full, threatening to block your account and make you pay fees and penalties over the lots you have not paid. One word can describe all this: unfair.

Customer support

Definitely a buyer be-aware, descriptions often sketchy or totally inaccurate. Support is abysmal, impossible to post questions to sellers. Needs work

Buyer watch out
Henry37

Very sketchy website. I’d avoid. The items aren’t great or unique and the prices are bad plus the shipping is always outrageous . Try Design Addict or stick to eBay and Craigslist . This place is a rip off. The five star reviews seem fake. Lots of spelling and grammar issues in them.

Terrible customer service

If no issue with your item its great. But if there is a problem; the customer service is terrible. No response after many followup.

Fix internet issues

Seriously buggy app with some of the worst connectivity issues I’ve seen. Will simply refused to connect to WiFi or network for 30 mins blocks, not very helpful during an auction! If you’re taking 9% from every sale how about you invest in a real app developer.

Careful what you buy, and zero support for the buyer for shipping
HeyPal?

First, I purchased an item that read as if it was art print. But it turned out it was some junk made on the website Zazzle, and was not a print. Misrepresented for start to finish. Also, an item was lost, it had zero proof of making it to my country’s postal system. And they told me tough luck it’s your loss... so it’s back to eBay for me. Be carful if you ever work with them. At least eBay offers buyer protection.

Not the Best Option for North America

Layout, functions, and overall design are all quite nice and easy to use. The problem for me is most auctions are overseas which means exorbitant shipping costs. Then there is the 9% auction fee paid by the buyer, not the seller, and topping it off most auctions I see have hidden reserves. Buyers do not like reserves. Either start with a price you can stomach or do no reserve. Professional EBAY sellers learned this 20 years ago. Having the option for pricing in my currency is also old hat for EBAY. I'm not fond of dropping out of the app every 15 minutes to load my currency converter. While it isn't entirely fair to compare directly to EBAY as it has had the luxury of growing into the beast it is today. What confuses me is why Catawiki didn't adopt the features that have made EBAY so successful. With all that said it is refreshing to not see all the garbage that is prevelant in the unpoliced EBAY wasteland. Still, I can't help but feel this should be much better and perhaps it will when more North American sellers start to populate it. Shipping costs cannot be helped but auction fees and hidden reserves can. As a buyer I will say there is absolutely NO reason for me to bother bidding until the reserve is met. How about we just start there? Truth is nothing gets people to overspend like a heated bidding war started with a no reserve auction. * I realize the hidden reserve is chosen by the seller and not Catawiki. My review is addressing the entire experience and not just the developer.
