A blast for young wizards

This is a fun little app. It has great appeal for the Harry Potter set. It's basically to practice times tables and also to see them as arrays. You are sent on missions and "blast" the correct answer with your wand. There doesn't seem to be any penalty when you choose a wrong answer, but allows you to choose again (and again). At least one of the missions is timed; you have to get the answer before the bat gets across the screen.
Fun way to practice multiplication

I downloaded this for my nine year old to practice multiplication. When the game first starts, she was told about a magical curse that can only be broken by finding the right product. If you get the product correct a fire bomb with the right number will shoot the minions. The game becomes multiplication drills. At the beginning you can pick which times table you want to work with and it builds up to giving random problems. She had to shoot the minions with the right number fire bomb to break the minions' shield spell. At the end it shows her progress and which multiplication facts she needs to work on. This is a great game to make practicing multiplication fun and painless. And perfect for keeping kids occupied in a wholesome way on the go.
Math Magic

The developer’s description of this app is one of “mini-adventure” – and that it is. The characters are spell casting apprentices who use the magic of math to defend their world. In the Library players access the mini-story, this explains properties of multiplication. Students who enjoy reading fantasy will be drawn into the narrative. Parents or teachers can also read this out loud, adding just the right amount of drama. The Courtyard provides the first attempt to build conceptual understanding, with short instructional explanations as scaffolds. The Village is a great place to practice fluency. Feedback is given on the number combinations students need to practice. If you are looking for a good app that helps build conceptual understanding and fluency, with the right amount of imaginative play, this is it.
