Not a real war game

dr_millmoss

I wanted to like this game, I really did, but it didn't take long to figure out that it is an arcade type game, not a war game. I was looking for realistic play. You won't find that here, not in the least. Despite the way it is advertised, this is not a historically-based war game. The ships have no resemblance whatsoever to real warships from WWII. The turret types are completely fictional. The movement is not even slightly realistic. (A ship can move forwards in one turn and backwards the next -- just try that in a real ship!) Others have commented on the problem with aiming and range firing, so I won't elaborate on that except to add that starting each game you can select an assistant for one or the other, but not both. It automatically defaults to the aiming assistant and if you don't select the other, forget about changing it after the game starts, because you can't. Maybe that's okay since neither one is much use anyhow! The UI is pretty bad. It looks like a PC game ported to the iPad without much redesign, which I think is exactly what it is. Mostly it just gets in the way. Want instructions? Except for a primitive and incomplete tutorial, you won't get any. Maybe that's okay too, since the game really isn't worth learning. I've played more sophisticated war games with pieces of cardboard on paper maps. One of these days someone is going to create a real turn-based war game for the iPad, and blow feeble efforts like this one out of the water.

Smart, tactical wargame

Dude Jackson

Played this game for a while now and really glad to see multiplayer added. I think the new aiming feature that was added is great if you are starting out with the game, but I still like the old aiming mode. Glad that's still in there. Nice to see a mini tutorial added along with the full tutorial, if you don't want to play through the full one. Overall still a great game, the mix of strategy and tank-style aiming is really unique and a nice change from typical iPad games.

Wonderful

This is truly a great naval game for iOS. I own every naval PC and board game from about 1975 on. I am a true fan. This game is not even close to the 'reality' or complexity of many, but, for an iOS game.... It is top of what's available. Pacific Fleet is also in this vain but each are different in how they present their illusion of naval simulation. I hope that the developers of battle fleet continue to improve. I love this game!

Not worth the money

MSchreib81

The game I really enjoy, while it lasted. There is a limited amount of levels for the premium price. Might be worth the money once more levels are added.

Could be good...

The Pugilist

...but even on the lowest difficulty the enemies hit with laser accuracy, where humans have to fire ranging shots every time they move. Too frustrating.

Battle Fleet: Where EVERY ship has battleship-style turrets.

El Kabong 17

This is a decent game that could've been much better, if only *some* effort to make the ships more realistic-looking was made. Put it this way... Your main ship, a destroyer, has the 3 turret configuration of a battleship. As if that wasn't bad enough, they also pop two smaller battleship-style turrets on either side of your ship, making it look like some kind of a God-awful anime abomination. THEN, they give some of your turrets "spread" shot like a shotgun or early 19th century grapeshot, making it even more ridiculous. Honestly, guys, would it have been that hard to just look at some pictures of WW2 ships before making this game?

Awesome game

Josh Tomaz

Awesome game. please please make a modern navel game just like this game and please make a modern destroyer.

Broken

RGlobin

Online multiplayer broken. Good game when you can play it

Battle Fleet

Pretty cool game once you get the hang of it. Use the "distance" assist and you'll be hitting the enemy on the first try. This assist overlays the map with concentric distance circles of 200. Play as "Ensign" to make the campaigns easier.

Great Game

This raises the bar with pacific fleet!
