Disappointed

It lets you get through just enough lessons to learn how the app works then hits you with "Pick a Subscription" the cheapest of which was $6 a month.

I use the app every day
ZippLoner

The content for my Norwegian language course is useful for my upcoming trip and the lessons nicely intuitive. The app is well worth the small amount I pay monthly.

Slow it down!!!
Suffolk45

There should be some way to slow down the words. I cannot pick up the pronunciation when the speaker speaks so fast!!!!

So frustrated !!
Arnie Hobbs

Biggest problem keep getting spelling marked wrong because app keyboard doesn't have Norwegian characters - second problem is for beginners spoken text is too fast to understand individual words

Maybe more audio
Moxisu

I enjoy the program. Lots of short lessons that fit into tiny time cracks and my brain can peruse them. I’d like to hear the speakers more times and have a little more time to look at a phrase before it goes away.

Great job Babbel!

Finally, an app made by linguists that builds on how adults learn and gets you understanding and speaking the language in very little time. No wasting time learning vocabulary that is obscure. No time lost wondering what the grammar rules are. (Much more efficient way of learning than Duolingo and Rosetta Stone). Really helps you have meaningful conversations with native speakers. The dialogues are engaging and often humorous. The learner is exposed to a lot of Norwegian culture, too. The audio is also very clear. I like how the grammar feature gives plenty of examples. I love the speech recognition feature. My pronunciation is sounding more native every day. I do suggest the language learner get a good dictionary (e.g. Free Norwegian Dictionary by Farlex on App Store that has IPA, and Ordnett Stor Dictionary: expensive but good for intermediate users). It will also help to familiarize yourself with Norwegian sounds and pronunciation rules on omniglot site online. You may note that the speakers on the app have different accents, depending on which part of Norway they are from. Norwegians have all sorts of different accents and varieties and they can still understand each other. This is part of the reason Norwegians understand Danes and Swedes more than the others do. It's good to be exposed to variety from the start. Thanks Babbel staff. Please keep adding more languages.

So far not so good!

I paid the $26 for the full access and was excited there was an app to accompany the computer version. 1) the computer version has it's own separate complainants (like only working when you select no microphone) 2) I can't even properly critique this app because it won't even open!! Press the icon, it shows the home screen, it crashes. Try again? Same thing over and over and over and over.

First off, the app does have some problems. I could not get the mic feature to work. But I am learning so much, anyway, I don't really care. The app is free and works with your paid Babbel course, by the way. You can use their web site or the app, it doesn't matter. The app crashes when I click on "Courses" so I can't select what I would like to work on. But it walks you through a lesson plan anyway, so you can still learn as it automatically loads the next lesson. There is also a review feature that works as intended. In short, I can get by with this, I will learn a lot, so I'm ok with it even though it needs improvement. If all else fails, I can use the web site. But I prefer to use my iPad, so I'm sticking with the app for now. If I were to suggest something, I would say that when you get something wrong, the app should allow you to type it correctly for the extra practice. Also, some of the explanatory pop ups are in the wrong language! So this needs to be fixed.

Better than Rosetta Stone.

First, it's a paid app. You don't get language learning for free, so get over that. Very few glitches in the app and it stays synced with online program and progress. More user friendly than Rosetta Stone and doesn't force you to use voice recognition if you're in a place where it would be inappropriate or not feasible.

Great learning tool
BrettBretterson

I'm liking the app so far. Great lessons for a reasonable price. However, the inability to type the last 3 letters (æ æ å) of the Norwegian alphabet is unfortunate. That seems like an easy fix and I will update my rating to 5 stars once that has been changed.
