AVERT real-time GIC

CPI’s AVERT real-time GIC app shows you the up-to-date hazard conditions for Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) across the United States. During a space weather event, the induced electric field increases at the surface of the Earth. This can create large currents in long conductors like the transmission lines of the US bulk power system. GIC hazard conditions are color-coded to show the relative response across regions of the US. Zoom in to view the modeled results in your local area.
