Autism iHelp Opposites targets fundamental vocabulary building skills in a variety of formats. While utilizing real-life photographs, this app introduces the learner to the concept of opposites. Learning opposites is necessary for understanding the concepts of same and different as well as remembering descriptive words that can be used in conversation. Building opposites into a child's vocabulary strengthens word retrieval and comprehension of all aspects of a vocabulary term. During the practice portion, the app uses real-world photographs to label different opposites (on the same screen). During the game portion, the student is required to choose the given opposite in a field of choices.
Additionally, you are able to track your child's gains through progress reports that average the last 3 performances of each learning enhancement activity.

Navigation could use some work

In the learning set, you cannot exit without completing the entire activity or shutting down the app. Also, my kids would just match the visual cues in the game, not tune into the words and their meanings. For example "high" and "low both have a truck, so they would pick those because they are both trucks, not because they know the opposite meanings of high/low. Same with empty/full - both bottles. All the pictures I saw in this sample were like this. I have my doubts as to the learning value in this. I would challenge you to turn off the sound on the app and I can guarantee they will still match the pictures based on the objects, not the attributes. Possibly give the stimulus item verbally only, without the picture to match to?

LOVE this opposites app
SLP4life

As a speech-language pathologist, I love using this app in therapy. Opposites are an essential concept and having this app as a visual model really helps my kiddos to 'get it.' I use this app often for my clients with autism, but also with others who have difficulty with this concepts. Love these apps! Keem 'em coming!

Why can't apps be this simple

This app is proof that simplicity always wins. No useless complexities here. A great work from some sensible minds. Kudos to the team from India.
