Good base, but multiple problems

AkuTaco

I really like this game, and an endless runner is a good way to adapt this for mobile. That said, I can’t give the base game the rating it deserves for a few reasons. One is the ads- they are pretty incessant. One ad in particular for the game Rise Up breaks the game for me, almost without fail. The option to exit the ad is misleading. There’s a tiny X in the top right, but the hit box for it is either too small or in the wrong place, causing you to tap the advertisement and forcing the game to load the App Store; this is a problem for me, as I have to then close the App Store to conserve memory. As someone else mentioned, the lack of skippability on certain missions can tank progress for anyone not willing or not able to surrender to the game’s social aspect (which I’m sure has less to do with creating a fun community, and more to do with accessing people’s social media data). Personally, I’ve always been a solo player, so this one will hurt me eventually. Finally, there’s a lag between my finger input and the prince following my commands. If I move my finger to the far left, the prince has to catch up with it. Sometimes he never does and I have to lift my finger and swipe to the left a second time to get him all the way where I want. If I lift my finger before he catches up, he stops right where he was when my finger lifted. This is ok at the beginning when things are slow and obstacles are pretty far apart relative to the katamari’s size, but becomes a problem later when I need to be able to act quickly or lift my finger to make a jump, or at moments when the game starts to lag and experiences framerate issues. I understand part of this is probably a result of my phone’s screen size, though (I’m still using a 5s). Other people’s mileage may vary on this one. As someone who grew up playing the original Katamari games, I’m glad to see some form of it out in the wild. But playing this just makes me wish I could have a full version of the game that I can play on my PS4 (they could even do lootboxes for cosmetic items your prince wears, which would slide right in to the gift mechanic that existed in the old games).

Excessive Ads

It’s really nostalgic and much more user friendly on the phone than the original Katamari app, but there are way too many ads and they’re all 30 seconds each. I would be willing to pay money if it meant removing the ads. It discourages me from wanting to play the game more.

Awesome game but freezes on iPhone X

Kamamari is a lot of fun, but it occasionally freezes. The game is nice enough to recognize the freeze and gives you a countdown time before it resumes, but the controls are usually still frozen for a second after the game resumes so you die. Very frustrating if you are in the middle of an intense level!

Could be better

Zannablack

I feel that this game could be better if it was closer to the original format. Also, sometimes it will give you the option to continue by watching an ad, so you watch the ad, but it STILL ends the game. And I ‘d love to connect my Fujio to other friends that play except none of us can figure out how. I can’t get further in my missions because of this. Please make a Katamari game more like the original. I don’t care if it isn’t free. I’d be willing to buy it.

Good, still needs work

TheMeowbot

The game is fun, though the map is extremely repetitive. It would be nice to be able to play in different arenas rather than the same one over and over. The challenges are easy, though I wish you could skip certain ones (for example you have to have a Facebook friend who also plays the game to get through one that requires Fujio) so you can complete others. The gameplay can be buggy, such as falling through the map at the very beginning or being super tiny (Marny-sized) until you actually hit a Marny. But, if you’re a fan of the Katamari series then this is a nice little diverting game.

Frustrating

LynieRae

So I absolutely love the Katamari games! I wish they would make more for the new consoles! My only frustration with this mobile version, which is by far better than the first mobile version btw, is I cannot complete the main mission because I do not have a friend playing with me. So this entire time I have a mission that I will never get passed. It’s really frustrating, I don’t think I should have to make my friends play a game just so I can get past missions. If you won’t get rid of the mission then you could at least make it so that those of us who play can just friend each other.

Won’t launch anymore

Olclops

The game suddenly stopped launching. Restarts won’t resolve. Crashes every time before launching.

Fujio

Take it off the Kings challenge!!!

Needs update

conner228

I too had this game on PS2 and enjoyed it. Runner style definitely isn’t the same but it exceeded my expectation for a mobile game. However I wish there were more worlds to roll through, it gets old to roll through the same objects and scenery each time. Also, I’d like to see more after the city. Rainbow road comes too soon. Additionally, after you fill all the constellations there isn’t much to motivate you to play. Would like to see more and longer worlds and more constellations. Plus, I’ve tried to unlock fujio a million times and can’t figure out how. Fixing that alone would up my review to 4 stars.

Absolutely Wonderful

Trees Have Feelings

I love this game for so many reasons. To get me to play a game the art style and plot has to meet my expectations and this game really does that. The art and music is so cute and friendly that it always makes me smile when I long on. The programming of this game is superb. I’m now addicted and will play this game with any free time that I have. Usually I don’t write reviews but this game is just so amazing that I just had to. Good job, I really love it.
