Depending on your current position and your device one of the two methods is more correct. Using GPS on the device is known for a large error in the altitude for difficult receiver conditions it's not available for network based positioning at all.
Therefore this altimeter works on iPods and iPhones without a GPS sensor.
More features:
- switch between metric and feet units
- set an optional target altitude
- switch between Device, ASTER and combined altitude
- support for the iPhone 6 and 6+
- support for the iPad multitasking (split view..)
Uses ASTER... That means it verifies it's election with a satellite radar mapping system, make g it unusually accurate. MUCH MORE ACCURATE that normal than GPS apps!!
in my case i loaded the software to my ipod touch and is not working ,my country is in its database and is not showing up..
Total crap. Only is suppose to do one thing and doesn't do it! Like most $.99 apps, not worth it
I love it. It was a quick and easy download and took off working right away. I was away from home in Wyoming and wanted to know the altitude where we were. Worked great especially with having two options to determine the altitude. Good enough for my purposes.
Extremely accurate ASTER elevations showing the GPS differentials in GPS elevation and ASTER elevations. I never knew that GPS altimeter readings were so inaccurate! Makes normal GPS elevation/altimeter information almost useless! A MUST HAVE if you want accurate elevation readings. App sends lateral location readings to database for extremely accurate satellite radar altitude of target area. WAY MORE accurate than a GPS elevation reading!
Altitude refers to the height above mean sea level regardless of elevation of the land. The symbol of the altimeter falsely implies it uses barometric pressure as well as gps for aircraft altitude. But, it only tells you the elevation of the ground. Am giving it 2 stars because it does do a good job at elevation but only two stars because it does not give altitude.
