Games $5.99 Ambrosia Software, Inc. iPad

Combining the ancient Chinese game of Mahjong with an enchanting journey across Japan, Aki is easy to learn even if you still haven't mastered chopsticks, so don't hesitate to dive right in.

The principle is simple: you have a number of ivory tiles arranged on a beautiful Japanese backdrop. Your goal is to make all of the tiles disappear by matching them to similar tiles.

Aki is a casual game you can pick up and play whenever you want, yet dismiss quickly to surf the web or send a message. When you're ready to resume, tap the Aki icon and you're back where you left off!

Missing tile
Andrew Welch

Guys, this is Andrew Welch from Ambrosia. You're 100% right about a tile being missing in version 1.0.1. It wasn't missing in the dev version we tested, and since we did not have an iPad for actual testing, there's no way we could have caught it. The problem was just a graphic that didn't get copied over. We burned the midnight oil on Saturday (the iPad launch day) and fixed the issue in version 1.0.1, which is available now. Grab the update, and you should be good to go!

Questionable results

You say the update is available but when I choose update it says all apps updated and yet I'm still on ver 1.0.0. What gives?

Mahjong

Not very vibrant and a terribly annoying fixed timer.

Better than most
jyanji

I find the game fun despite its minor flaws: - lifting your finger after choosing a level often selects an adjacent level - touching a tile doesn't always select it - music can sometimes turn off between levels, menus, and game sessions - timer could use improvement to give a sense of progress with successive matchings and urgency when time is running out These are yet quite minor things that keeps the game from being one of the best mahjong boards currently available.

Classy and clean
PixelPerfection

This is truly a refined and clean version of the classic solitaire game of mahjong. Very readable tiles and tasteful art make for a pleasant and non distracting experience. Sure the game doesn't have customizable tiles, but this is exactly what I don't want in my game. The ability to zoom in tiles is welcome and comes in handy at moments. Shaking the iPad to reshuffle the tiles is a really nice touch as well. More then enough levels are included combine with great replay value too! Addicting. The update addressed the problem of not being able to finish a game. Ambrosia was on top of fixing the bugs two days after the iPad was released.

Ugly

Made another mistake. Should have looked at the other light HD versions out there first. I REALLY don't like the interface. Looks cheap.

Enjoyment
Got Miche?

Lots of fun! Got it at a great price, too! $.99 Thanks so much!

Buggy

This app has been out for awhile. Are you guys ever going to eradicate the bugs related to touch sensitivity?

Lots of fun
LocksmithJeff

Lots of mindless fun. When you need to take your mind off work, this does the trick. Much better than solitaire. Highly recommended.

Very relaxing well-illustrated and challenging enough.
