I have a lot of streaming apps, but Air Video HD is the best so far, and especially when streaming remotely, noting compare with its no buffering stream and speed

Used AirVideo for years and it was fine. But the dev hasn’t kept up and now you can’t see the buttons tool bar at the top of the screen to navigate. All they would need to do is change the color of the tool bar but the dev doesn’t respond to emails and hasn’t done anything with the app for years. Two other issues… when you pause video, it shows a thumbnail of the current video frame that takes up 1/4 of the screen and never disappears. So if you’re pausing to look closer at something, it’s blocked by the thumbnail. I use PLEX now and it’s soooo much better - including (automatically) showing/adding info like ratings & descriptions. The only good thing about AirVideo is it shows a thumbnail as you scrub (scan) through videos (PLEX doesn’t) but that’s the only thing it does well anymore. Go get PLEX, you’ll be happier (and their developers actually update the app frequently and even read user emails).

The app is fantastic. Does what it says it does. Reason for the 4 stars (should have been 5) are 2 things the app doesn’t do: 1. recognize all drives without deleting the app and than downloading it again. 2. not able to browse storage devices

New buyers beware: this is a dead product! It was good while it lasted! I loved Air Video HD and I'd still use it if I could, but it's been almost 4 years since the server app for Air Video HD was updated. The server cannot handle H.265 video files and hard crashes when any viewer tries to watch one. This renders the app mostly useless in 2021 where there's tons of 4K and HDR content. To be clear I don't expect 4K streaming or even H.265 support! I just want the server to not crash. There don't seem to be any signs of life on development so I guess I will just have close down my server, delete the app, and move on. It's a shame, this was my favorite self-hosted video streaming app for almot a decade.

I love Air Video HD and I've been a user since before the "HD" revamp. The app is all but abandoned at this point with several crash bugs in the server and no support for H.265 video. I am ok with the app not getting new features but the server crashes every time a client clicks an HEVC video!! If it could at least display an "unsupported format" message instead, that would be ok. But it doesn't, so I am rebooting the server daily. Devs are entirely unresponsive, won't open source the server. There are multiple freeze bugs in the client as well. The iPad client has invisible buttons that have been unfixed for 3 years. Full screen often freezes the playback app requiring a restart. Caution to new buyers: This is a dead product.

Just as the title implies, the app is very smooth and user friendly. I have never had issue with it and the fact that it’s a cheap one time purchase instead of a subscription makes it that much more worth it

Adding the ability to stream 4K would be make this the better app versus others out there. I don’t recall there being any updates to the app or server in at least 8 years or so. Way past time to get on par with others. Aside from that, I do like air video.
