I have this app and three others and there is no difference in ads at all and yes you have to turn them on in settings under safari.

Had to uninstall this app because it was draining my battery at an alarming speed.

I followed the directions: went into settings, enabled the app, and went back to the app to turn it on. Yet still nothing. I really wish this worked. Maybe in the next update ??‍♀️
