Accutension Stetho

Accuracy of blood pressure matters. Inaccurate blood pressure is worse than none. However, according to Harvard health, 15% blood pressure monitors are very inaccurate (http://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/home-blood-pressure-monitors-arent-accurate-201410297494). Accutension Stetho is the first calibrator for home blood pressure monitors. Home blood pressure monitors use algorithm to determine blood pressures and its accuracy depends on users and body conditions. With the algorithm calibrated, you will have higher confidence on the blood pressure readings.

It records, visualizes and plays back the sounds (Korotkoff sounds) of your blood flow during blood pressure measurement and help you use the sounds to find out blood pressure readings. It is the same method a doctor measures blood pressure with a manual blood pressure cuff and a stethoscope.

When you take blood pressure with an automatic blood pressure monitor, the display of the monitor shows the cuff pressure in real time. Accutension Stetho App records the cuff pressure showed on the monitor and synchronizes the pressure readings with the sounds from the stethoscope. When the first Korotkoff sound appears, the cuff pressure is Systolic blood pressure, when the Korotkoff sounds disappear, the cuff pressure is Diastolic blood pressure.

For every measure, you will have two sets of blood pressure readings, one from the automatic blood pressure monitor and another from Accutension Stetho App. If the difference of these two sets of values is small (less than 5mmHg), the algorithm of your automatic blood pressure monitor is accurate. If the difference of these two is bigger than 10mmHg, you might need to talk to your doctors on this because the inaccuracy of your automatic blood pressure monitor could affect the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.

With Accutension Stetho, you can hear the Korotkoff sounds in real time during measurement or during playback. You can also email the video with Korotkoff sounds to your doctors or friends to confirm your blood pressure readings.

Simply excellent!

As an American consumer my limited experience with completely China-based products has mostly been a disappointment. My guess is most of it stems from cultural and language barriers. Their instructions are often inscrutable and products are of questionable quality. But Accutension Stetho and its associated app are surprisingly wonderful exception. Both the app and the product work well. The app did crash on me the first time I tried to use it on my iPad Air 2 but worked stably after reopening it. One must bear in mind that the app is compatible but isn't optimized for the iPad's larger screen. I had to use the iPad Air 2 in order to record the blood pressure monitor readings for the Withings app on my iPhone 6 that was wirelessly connected via Bluetooth to the Withings Blood pressure monitor as I couldn't use both the Withings app and the Accutension Stetho app on the iPhone 6 at the same time. The written instructions in the app do have a few spelling errors (ignorable) and the writing style seems to be a little too technical for the average American consumer with short attention span. However, the instruction video in How to section makes most things fairly clear. Despite seeing the instruction video I had to google to find out what Korotkoff sound meant. Once I knew what those sounds were I could easily identify them in the graph. The graph of the Korotkoff sounds are very distinctive; hence, one can have both visual and auditory confirmation of blood pressure monitor readings. Overall, the app is off to a great start and with a little more polish, it should deliver on its full potential. The bottomline is the app is stable and the product works--you can buy it without fear of getting a lemon.

Already had a try on this

Bought this from amazon.com thinking it would be helpful to have more accurate BP readings. I’m on the verge of being a high blood pressure person. Using this app I can compare the readings of the sound by Accutension Stetho and readings of the electric blood pressure machine. Furthermore I can keep a record on measurement by videoing each time.

Awesome and useful device
pressure readings

This app helps check the automatic blood pressure monitor’s accuracy. Put the stethoscope over the arm and run the app to start the calibration. It tracks blood pressure readings and allows me to record the deviation between the monitor and the Stetho. Awesomely useful to me. I like the videoing function which can help me track my blood pressure readings from using both the sound method and the automatic pressure monitor’s method.

A reliable app
several practices

The device is accurate and easy to use with the app. My only problem is how to video my blood pressure measurement with one hand. Probably after several practices, I could be skilled.

Good, purchased at amazon too. After downloading the app, I started to check my ReliOn machine. The bp readings determined by the sound is close to the readings of my machine. I would use both every day and track one month to see what I would have.

Works great

This app wroks just fine with my Omron 10 series, model BP653, and iPhone 7. Purchased the devices on amazon and then use them together. I downloaded the app and went through the process of calibration following the manual in the box. That wasn’t hard to do like somebody else said.

Not working

I was pretty excited when I received my device tonight, but alas, it’s currently a no-go. Every time that I start to record, the app crashes. I used both the “wizard” and “calibrate” modes. Crashes in both. I’m using an iPhone X and iOS 11.2.5. Anxiously awaiting a fix. Gave it three stars as a neutral rating.

iPhone X

App crashes before and after update . it worked on iPad using headphone jack but continues to ask me to register. I’m lucky I still have the box that has the code- Things are working now
