It’s okay, but so many errors and inconsistencies – Duolingo - Language Lessons Review

This app takes on a difficult challenge and does okay, BUT it suffers from some major problems that make using it extremely frustrating. Far too often the hints offered are either flat out wrong or are incomplete. For people with a high intermediate or above competency the “correct” answers are often not consistent with how the target language is used in real life. For example, in Spanish the word “en” can be used to mean “on, in, at” depending on context, but Duolingo will say you’re wrong to use it to signify “at”. Also, the spoken phrases in Esperanto are too fast and cannot be slowed down, which makes decoding them very difficult. I’m actually tempted to try their English lessons to see if those are equally incorrect. I’ve only used this app to brush up my Spanish and learn Esperanto, but I’ve decided to give up on the Spanish because there are so many errors and silly inconsistencies with the actual use of the language.
