The app shows you people in your area, but you can only like or pass on a limited number of them using the free version. The rest disappear the next day and you can never see them again. Therefore, you miss out on potentially up to half of the available people in your area. Use a different app, like Tinder, Bumble, or Hinged, or even OK Cupid or Feeld (which aren’t much better but are still better).
