Great idea; Poor execution – Halo Waypoint Review

I loved using the HaloWaypoint app on my 360 back in the day. Not only was it a great place to keep up with halo stats and news, but occasionally we’d even get exclusive short films like those halo evolution shorts. The current halo waypoint website isn’t as fun but still keeps you informed and has plenty of blog posts, chat boards, and stat trackers. For halo infinite’s launch, 343 was making a big deal about this app and I was interested at first. I will say the best part of this app is the fact that you can customize your spartan from the app (though it’s really buggy and limited compared to just doing it in game). Other than that however, there’s really not much else. No exclusive rewards, shorts, or content that draws you in. No chat/blog boards for fans to discuss all things halo. Really little to no stats for Halo infinite. And while there is news, it’s only the more well-known and obvious stuff and is usually out dated. There’s just no reason for me to use this app over just YouTube, Google, or their own website. It really feels like they did the bare minimum and it’s sad because I really liked the concept. Halo Infinite is really lacking any kind of service record like the other games had and fans are so eager for updates on when bugs and fixes are coming that this app could have given us a reason to keep checking the app. If 343 posted as much on this app as they did on their website, let fans chat with each other on here, and even maybe offer in-game rewards for checking in the app from time-to-time, I might be more interested in this app. As is, this app is the digital equivalent of a paperweight. I hope 343 actually updates and adds to this app and doesn’t just abandon it out of the gate like the Halo Channel.
