The best scanner app – 5-0 Radio Pro Police Scanner Review

This is hands down the best scanner app on the market. More than worth the purchase price! Hint for users new and old alike: Since there is a bit of a time delay between a radio transmission and the audio playing through the app (because of all the receiving, compression, sending it to the server, then sending it back out to the app) use that lag to your advantage. The best way I’ve found to use this is that I save the local sheriff’s department dispatch channel as a favorite, move it up to the top of the list, and then in the settings for the app, turn on the option to start playing the first favorited channel when the app starts. Now when you open the app, it instantly starts that channel. I take it one step further and use the built-in Apple Shortcuts program to automatically set my volume at 100% and then launch the app and I’ve saved that shortcut as “Siren” to both my homepage as well as for Siri to run. As soon as I hear a siren, all I do is say Siri, siren and in less than 2 seconds, I’ve got the radio going and thanks to the lag between real-time and hearing the audio (all of the apps like this have that delay by the way, but 5-0 has one of the lowest lag times by as much as 45%) you’ll have a good chance of catching the initial dispatch. By the way (and this is something that I hope and wish that the dev’s will look into): apparently Apple is kinda lazy in their programming for their autocorrect engine dictionaries. Because of that laziness, autocorrect may or may not start autocorrecting anytime you type 50 as 5-0 because that’s part of the program name. ***To fix this, go into Settings, pull down to get the search bar, and then enter ‘text’. Select the search result that reads Text Replacement. Hit the + button and then enter ‘50’ for both the phrase and shortcut and save it (without the apostrophes obviously). Then, hit the + again and this time enter ‘50’ for the phrase and ‘5-0’ for the shortcut. This will act as a kill switch to that being autocorrected. You can still use what you type by clicking on it in the text suggestion bar before you use a space or anything though. Hope this tip helps.*** And devs, don’t feel bad because ac also does that where it will turn 20 into 2.0 a lot too, and we both know that that just proves their laziness. Thank y’all though for not being lazy and producing great app.
