Pretty awesome – CRABITRON: Giant Space Crab Simulation Review

This seemed like a pretty new idea for an iPad game so I gave it a whirl. The concept is really unique; you're a giant crab harassing everyone in space. Kind of like being Godzilla in a city - the idea is to destroy as much as you can. Graphics are spot on. I love the crab's goofy expressions as he eats things or gets shot at. I just wish he had some sort of funny sound effect to accompany that aside from the clinking of his claws. Music is pretty cool too. Not too annoying yet not to subtle. However, it doesn't cling to you the way another song would. Still, can't complain here. Controls are where I have mixed feelings. While the idea is pretty innovative, and it takes several plays to get the hang of it, there are areas where this idea has problems. First, if you have a screen protector, good luck. I have a military shield on my iPad, which so far has been pretty fluid with my fingers, but I suffered with this game. Moving four of my fingers erratically across the screen created a semi painful friction, making it hard to pinch the claws and progress without pausing and resting my fingers. I'm assuming this game can be played normally without any screen protectors, but this is assuming nobody has protectors on. Secondly, if you cross the claws in an X motion, the game has trouble identifying which claw belongs to which fingers, and you might end up with tangled claws that become impossible to untangle unless you restart the mission. I had this happen to me twice already where they are tangled, and it assumes the left claw is being handled by my left finger, but the moment I put my right fingers down to get the right claw it freaks out and switches controls so my right fingers control the left claw and vice versa. It does this sporadic switching, so I can't untangle him, and it becomes frustrating when I'm getting attacked. All in all, this game is fun, and got a few chuckles out of me. My only gripe is controls, but it's also a new concept I haven't seen before so hats off to the developers for pulling this off. I'm sure with further updates the controls will become more solid. I would recommend this game definitely if you are looking for something new and fun. Granted, 5 dollars is a little high, but since this has only two in app purchases that go away once you buy them I can overlook that.
