Good idea with serious balance problems – Shifts: A survival strategy game in space Review

Shifts is a great concept for a game, and they did a nice job with the graphics, but the actual game-balance is terrible. Hull crises kick you into a death spiral since you can't fix the damage and solve the crisis at the same time. The huge galaxy makes finding 3 habitable planets a matter of sheer luck and the game is virtually impossible to win. It would have been easy enough to have different difficulty levels which set the size of the galaxy, but no dice, there is only one difficulty level. Very frustrating, some outside playtesting might have made this a fun game, but as it is now the high difficulty and ease of getting into pointless death spirals just makes the game dull.
