Good study aid – Real Estate Exam For Dummies Review
Post-exam update: passed the first time (after lots of studying).
To study, I used mostly a combination of
- Dummies app
- 500 question PSI practice test bought through their website for a one-time fee of $50.
- physical flash cards from Amazon that provided longer explanations of the concepts.
- my state-specific review booklet (essential for state exam since state study materials are scarce)
I felt the PSI study questions and explanations were most relevant to the content of the actual test, but the Dummies app was category-specific and user friendly. If I did it over again, I’d plan to spend $100-$150 on study materials as follows:
- one month of the Dummies app to study different areas
- the PSI web-based practice tests 500 questions (also works on phone but no app)
- Flash cards—(the professionally printed sets) ...great for reviewing concepts after the course is closed
- course’s books—essential for state specific review not available in any of the national materials.
Overall, I thought the exam focused on the basic principles from each of the categories but did use compound problems. I felt stressed by a few questions especially in the math department, but you don’t need a perfect score to pass. You should be able to find out ahead of time what categories you will see on your exam and in what percentage. Some categories only have a couple of questions.
Good luck everyone!
...
So far, this app is more engaging than coursework and my other methods of study.
I’m a slow learner and this app helps me check my understanding of the material, plus I can use it anywhere and study categories using the app—super convenient.
I wish
1. it had more questions. It has 500+ questions with good explanations and other content, too, but it isn’t super comprehensive ... I come across plenty of unfamiliar questions in my practice tests after breezing through particular categories in this app.
2. I also wish the navigation were streamlined. It’s a little confusing at first on where to go and how to keep track of progress. But it also packs a lot of content and is more fun to use than other study guides.
Altogether, I’m glad I found this and enjoy using it!
