Impressive voice recognition, bad app – Dragon Go! Review

Agree with many, Dragon Go! is far below Siri's level. The problem is not in technology. Voice recognition is top notch with Dragon. (Or Siri, for that matter. Guess whose voice engine Siri uses?) On first glance, the UI looks neat. But the app has some serious design problems. First, it doesn't present data in a uniform format, just shrinks the target Web page into its own window. This is very distracting and unprofessional, not to say many Web sites are not usable in the window, Fandango (for movies) is a primary example. More importantly, it makes too many assumptions about my intention by assigning a default target engine for each "type" of question. For example, when I ask for "movie theaters" near me, it goes to Fandango. Too many examples like this. Please! Exposing data source has its merits, but go to Yelp! every time I ask about restaurant won't do. This segue to the next problem: too much reliance on Yelp. If I ask for a gas station, it also goes to Yelp. What Yelp knows about gas stations? Really? There are three gas stations within 5-minute's walk from my test location, but Dragon Go! wants me to go at least 2.1 miles! For those who's never experienced Siri Assistant, Dragon Go! will be an impressive novelty (with lots of nasty and some funny surprises) app. But if you need help, ask Siri. The main good thing from this? More competition. Now Siri will have to overcome some of its own shortcomings.
