Fun but expensive – Diner DASH Adventures Review

While I’ve been grateful to stumble on this game for entertainment (sincerely fun and challenging, and keeps me coming back), my one big criticism is the price of anything you want to actually buy. Yes, you can play for free - but hours and hours of ads are needed to get what you need to progress. It is compelling enough to want to buy to get ahead. Yet, I put 10 dollars down a bit ago to speed it along and accidentally hit a wrong button that ‘spent’ the digital currency on an accidental choice - and it was $10 wasted on 30 seconds of game play. And that was it. No take backs, literally 10 dollars on 30 seconds. I was so bitter I haven’t been able to bring myself to spend another dollar since. These ‘micro transactions’ are not micro for a $10 digital pack of something lost in a month, never to be used again. I’d be more apt to buy if the kits were $.99 - $3 here and there - mistakes wouldn’t feel so devastating. Once I estimated a cost of ‘kitty ears,’ a special costume garment with nothing special to it but a wardrobe change, to cost an astronomical $25 to buy. You could buy an actual cat for the same price. As a person who works in the games industry, I am 100% for supporting the business by spending real money. But hard to digest spending what could be hundreds of dollars at the end of a year for digital add ins that aren’t actually doing anything or are gone in a month - as a person who really enjoys the game, I would happily spend money (and also slog through the ads) if the costs were lower and actually felt micro.
