One of two best Sudoku-variant apps – Sudoku Revolution Review

I've recently started getting in to sudoku variants, and this app offers a wonderful set of new challenges. Unfortunately, all the apps of this type that I have found have somewhat rudimentary user interfaces. I appreciate the work required to prepare these novel puzzles, but I hope that one of the developers could please add this feature: a "fix number, then pick cells" option for entering values. Solvers frequently fill in runs of the same digit, particularly near the end of a puzzle. I find the inverse "fix cell, then pick number" mode both slow and awkward enough to be distracting, yet it is the only one provided in every sudoku-variant app i've found. No doubt some players prefer this method; the ideal solution, IMHO, is the "hybrid" entry method provided in Jason Linhart's best-of-the-best classic sudoku app. There are two other missing UI elements that I find important: - There is no switch to *disable* automatic highlighting of the current instances of a number. Such highlighting is a very useful solving assist, but as such, it is a type of "hint" (i.e. not available in a paper puzzle) and should therefore be an option rather than a fixed feature. - The app has a "flag incorrect entries" option, which is wonderful, but it only highlights logical conflicts. While such an option is useful for catching "typos", you can generally spot such conflicts yourself. When developing strategies for a new puzzle type, it is very helpful to instead have *all* erroneous entries flagged as soon as you make them: you can then assess your mistake and repair your strategy accordingly. Despite these limitations, this app has one of the two best UIs i've found among the sudoku-variant apps. (The other is Cool Sudoku.) I look forward to a UI update - particularly with that alternate entry method! - so that I can change my rating to 5 stars.
