LOVE THIS APP! but... – Adult Emoji for Lovers Review

I bought this a few years ago for around $40 or $50 that included these emojis and texting them forever, but when I upgraded to a new iPhone it required I sign up for a free trial and then $19.99 for a yearly subscription. This was after I restored previous purchase. Now when I go in it says I have a subscription for something I should have forever. O.o .... Is this accurate or a mistake? Am J the only one?
