Everything that’s wrong with the majority of mobile games (gacha, matchmaking/balancing, pay-to-win, etc) is no where in sight on this game. GoGS is making all the right moves. First, I want to talk about actual gameplay. It’s pretty rudimentary, which is to be expected because the usual single player w/ arena and co-op model is very successful. The only difference in this game, is that the matchmaking is actually good. Usually in mobile games when your doing arena or something pvp, you’ll get maybe 3 wins against accounts that don’t play the game, then you’re up against the no-lifers. In this game however, you can reach top rankings of server wide and game wide comp. I’m not saying it’s any easier, but it’s a refreshing sight to see a working matchmaking system. Next, I want to talk about the gacha and micro transactions. This is a pretty big one, because it determines how fast you hit a progression wall. Concerning the gacha, it seriously is one of the best I have ever seen. The first couple of days that I played, I didn’t spend any money but managed to get viable characters across all content. Not only that, but the devs provide you with tons of events that you can put towards getting more characters. Now on to the micro transactions. Overall, I think the much smaller packs are better. A $30 or $50 pack doesn’t substantiate well, especially in a game environment where the playing field is pretty fair. It’s one of my very very few criticisms of the game. Now I’ll talk about storyline. Overall, the story bounces all over. That’s not to say it’s necessarily bad, but it’s sort of hard to keep interest after a while. Also, the writing needs a bit more polishing. I noticed some grammatical errors and the frequency of some words are also on my list of criticisms. Final notes: The atmosphere is great. This is the first game that I’ve played where I’m part of a guild that actually talks to one another lol. The game isn’t too grindy and you don’t feel pressured to buy anything (besides one-time purchase pop-ups after hitting a certain level). I think a lot of people will enjoy the game because it corrects common mistakes. Don’t go in thinking it’s a groundbreaking game with something never seen before. With a little cleanup on the story and slight adjustments to micro transactions this game could be one of the best in its category (definitely top 5 for me)
