Fantastic Game but Frustratingly Broken – Survivalcraft 2 Review

Stop. Breaking my neck. And resetting all my progress. Every time I take a donkey through a tree. Now that that’s out of the way, allow me to list the complaints first, then the compliments. Why is there no way to cool down in front of magma? Why do I go blind every time an enemy attacks me, and why am I incapable of walking barefoot more than five meters without having a heart attack from exertion? Why would I spend half my inventory of iron on building a gun that takes a year to fire when I can just turn my crossbow into a rocket launcher? Finally, why does every deadly animal from every corner of the globe descend upon my sleeping hole every time I wake up? And yet, the game manages to stay true to its name, and still ends up being fun to play...most of the time. String for bows is acquired from vines instead of from farming spiders, sticks can be used to shovel and axe down trees faster, and even rocks can be used as weapons if you are skilled enough. Also, stone bricks don’t require a thousand years of smelting to construct. You rarely need a specific pickaxe to get the ores you want, just mine away. Enemies are actually a challenge. Weapons are interesting and challenging to use. Armor completely deflects damage like in real life rather than mitigating some of it. A complex temperature system make campfires, clothes, and even magma useful. The stat system is motivating and fun. You get to make black gunpowder using its real-life ingredients. Electricity is intuitive and possesses a variety of creative tools to choose from. The full-scale worlds in Survivalcraft can be breathtakingly beautiful and puts other 3D open world games to shame. It is a game where you truly have to prove your skills to enjoy it. You have to EARN the fun. Essentially, this is the Dark Souls of the Craft-games. Whether it becomes enragingly tedious or addicting depends on your patience to look around at your surroundings and use them to your advantage. To stop being the hunted and one day become the hunter. 3.5/5 but could be 4.5/5 with some tweaking.
