Highly addictive and fun, but not without flaws – Compression HD Review

A few things make this game not all it could be. 1) Scoring. It seems pretty arbitrary. For example, in blocked mode big differences in how a level is cleared make only a small difference in score - EXCEPT if you clear out all blocks as the final move. Then you get almost double the score for the level, making that the only goal for each level. Combos are meaningless in comparison. 2) Leaderboards. None of them work. You tap the buttons and it basically freezes the screen and you have to exit. Even when they are working, I have no way of tracking my personal high scores. I can only see my current score relative to the rest of the Internet, which is fine but not enough. 3) Difficulty. Again using blocked mode as an example, difficulty gradually increases at a decent rate up to about level 20 to 22 or so. Well, actually it continues to increase and that's the problem. There's a limit to how fast any person can manage the falling blocks, and when the game reaches that limit the game is effectively over unless you can be lucky enough to extend it based on lucky drops. This means that every time I play, I reach the same level and approximately the same score. It would be better if the difficulty (speed of falling blocks and height of starting blocks) plateaued at some point, with the challenge then being how many levels you can continue at that pace. For me, I get to level 22 - 24 and the game is over, period. These issues have nothing to do with the core gameplay, graphics, etc., which are great. It's still a lot of fun, but it could be so much better with a few tweaks.
