Mark II Is an awesome upgrade!!! – Halide Mark II - by Lux Camera Review

I’m laughing at the reviews I’m seeing: Broke, Trash! Don’t work.. LOL. I think it’s the users here that don’t have a clue about photography. It sounds like they didn’t take the time to learn the app. Most of the time it’s user error, not the app. Don’t let the negativity fool you, this is a great app. I’ve been using Halide since it came out along with the default camera app. Since the MarkII upgrade, I’ve been extremely impressed. I had a friend look at some photos I took and he couldn’t believe the quality I was getting on my 11 Pro Max. I now use Halide exclusively as my default app. The new options are fantastic. The only extra option I’d like to have is HDR panorama. Apple’s panoramic app is good, but needs an ISO & +/- adjustment tool like we have on camera and video. All of those can be adjusted, but the pano is limited. I’d like to take individual shots and stitch them together. That would be great! As for the instan RAW, I’m still getting used to that option. I am a photographer that shoots in RAW with my Sony gear, so I know how to use it. Currently the computational photos (deep fusion and smart HDR) look better than the RAW files do. The instant RAW files can be noisy with regular and color noise. After importing to Darkroom & processing there, they look better. That way seems to be the only way to save the instant raw file from the app. The new update otherwise is awesome. I’m taking photos just to take them and admiring the clarity. I plan to get the iPhone 12 Pro Max so I anxiously waiting to see how great that camera is going to be!!! On the fence?? Halide is worth it. I like the focus loupe, that’s cool. A few bugs:: When I view an image from the app just after talking the photo and go back to the camera, the camera remains in a horizontal or vertical orientation of which I shot the image. I have to rotate the iPhone one way to make the camera view match my orientation again. The window gets stuck. When I set the iso to my choice, then adjust the shutter, then touch where I want the camera to focus, the iso reverts back to where it was and my settings go away and I have to set them again and not touch the screen. Not sure if the camera app remembers where I touched before setting the iso and shutter. The loupe could be a little more zoomed and moveable. Currently it’s in the center of the frame. I’d like to see it appear where I touched to focus. With it the way it is in the center, I have to recompose after focusing. Randomly I get an error when the app wasn’t able to capture the photo: the message is— Unable to obtain assetsd XPC proxy to getphotoKitaddserviceWithreply: assetsd may have crashed. None of these issues are bad, or game changers, just minor problems. They will not keep me from using this app!! Can we get night mode guys??? Up to five minutes exposure time on a tripod at low iso? Wishful thinking??. Deep fusion on all cameras? I know the 12 pro series will already have this. Anyway, great job on the app!
