Needlessly “secure”; incomplete – BMW Driver's Guide Review

You have to enter a VIN to download. That’s probably for both customization and because someone in BMW is concerned about their IP. But it’s dumb. Suppose you have ordered a new, fantastically complex BMW and while it’s being built, want to read up on it. (Remember: RTFM.) Nope. Can’t. No VIN for an order until at least code 150. So, no downloaded OM. But it gets worse: even AFTER your car is built AND a VIN exists, this app is apparently disconnected from the big BMW VIN database in the sky. Despite being able to find that new VIN on every VIN decoder website the day after production completes, one STILL cannot download the OM. By the time one probably could, your car will have arrived and along with it, a printed book. So much for the convenience of reading up how to use iDrive or being able to see how ACC works. Plus, after all that, the info is both non-vehicle-specific and incomplete. Brain-dead. Stupid. Very BMW.
